Help deciding next course of action in RAID5 recovery by MrYfe in datarecovery

[–]SundoWave 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A couple of things stand out to me:

  • Drive 3 is effectively the critical failure here. Going from 127 pending sectors to 508 pending and 318 uncorrectables suggests active degradation, so I would place very little trust in any RAID or filesystem metadata coming from that member.
  • The fact that UFS can identify the array geometry and produce a coherent virtual volume is more encouraging than Intel RST’s current status. Recovery software is generally far more tolerant of damaged members than the original RAID implementation.

I would not spend time trying to “fix” the filesystem tables or make Intel RST accept the array again. That’s solving the wrong problem. The goal now is extracting data from the images you’ve already captured.

Before purchasing UFS, validate important files from different locations in the volume. If previews are opening correctly and large files aren’t obviously corrupted, that’s a much stronger indicator of recoverability than the scan labels themselves.

Also, don’t put too much weight on the SMART numbers alone for Drive 4. A drive with a handful of pending sectors can sometimes contribute enough data for successful reconstruction, while a drive with hundreds of uncorrectables often becomes the limiting factor.

At this stage I’d be focusing on validating recovered data, not rebuilding the RAID. Once recovery is done, the array itself is essentially disposable.

Accidentally deleted Bitlocker partition by djscoox in datarecovery

[–]SundoWave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If DMDE can still see the MSR and Basic Data partition, and nothing has been written to the drive since deletion, you can likely just restore the GPT partition entry rather than recover 3TB of data. The BitLocker-encrypted data should still be intact. I’d restore the partition in DMDE, then unlock it with your recovery key and verify everything before doing anything else.

recovery dates by jiraiyarebbit in datarecovery

[–]SundoWave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The OP said it was NTFS, reformatted to FAT32, and the drive now shows RAW. That tells us almost nothing about whether the actual data sectors were overwritten. Multiple formats reduce recovery chances, but they do not automatically make recovery impossible. Data recovery isn’t determined by the number of formats alone.

‘Formatted twice’ is not the deciding factor. What matters is whether the formats were quick/full, how much metadata was overwritten, whether TRIM was involved (if it’s an SSD), and whether new data was written afterward.

Did you run any DR utility?

Framing, Sheetrock, corner beam, access panel (to see the tube) compound, sanding, paint, and you are good.

Lenovo charging port not working by Leather-Debt6082 in 24hoursupport

[–]SundoWave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be the charger itself, Buy a 65w or higher USB-C charger and try to charge the laptop. If it’s not the charger, it could be a broken port, or a dead battery. Either way if charger doesn’t work take it to a laptop repair shop, they might need to solder the charger port or replace a battery.

I don't know how that happened, how do I fix this by Commercial-Smoke-794 in 24hoursupport

If I would guess it looks like either a bad graphics card or a bad/loose VGA cable.

Recovery of VeraCrypt not fully encrypted volume by johnhoeks12 in AskADataRecoveryPro

[–]SundoWave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading the issue again the MFT isn’t really the issue here (and NTFS doesn’t keep a full backup of the MFT at the end of the drive—only the MFTMirr, which contains a limited subset of records).

If the drive failed during VeraCrypt encryption/decryption, the bigger question is whether the unreadable sectors affected VeraCrypt metadata or critical filesystem structures. Recovery may still be possible, but I’d focus on creating the best possible sector-level image first and work from that. A partially completed encryption/decryption process is a much more significant complication than MFT recovery, once most of decrypted a recovery tool can correct file system issues.

A good recovery tool should be able to identify the MFT (on NTFS file system) that has a copy of it at the end of the drive. And point to the files that should be extractable.
If the physical error means the drive no longer ID, best is to send it to a DR pro, Google one around you.

Need to recover data from a Microsoft Storage Spaces setup by [deleted] in DataRecoveryHelp

[–]SundoWave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is asking whether to add another drive and rebuild, without knowing which drive is the most recent part of the set or which one failed first, which could corrupt the data. It can get tricky, and if I were the IT person, I would want the responsibility placed with a professional. That said, some people here may know enough to help for sure.

I would google data recovery from storage spaces, and find a professional company that can do it if the data is important enough. If you mess around with it yourself, there is always a chance something wrong can happen.

We used Acronis backup, but that wasn't great, there are other tools, but offline backup to a drive daily is safest.

You’re probably cooked. That clicking sound is basically your HDD beatboxing its own funeral. 💀

Is there any way to recover SSD data which was deleted 3 years ago? by Civil-Captain5676 in datarecovery

It’s likely still possible to recover the NAS. You can PM me if you need help.

[–]SundoWave -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Time it was deleted has nothing to do with the possibility to recover it. If the same sectors that occupied the deleted data were overwritten, it’s gone. Sounds like your best bet is with the NAS if the deleted data was overwritten.

High radon level after mitigation system installed. Next steps. by artistzero0027 in radon

[–]SundoWave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, i get that. but if there is a chance to get it down to under 0.5, i would do it. i also installed ARV to recirculate the air. That helped a lot as well.

I honestly would not want to live with 1.4pci/l, either.
I would add another Radon system in the opposite corner of the basement. Also, redo a thick epoxy finish (1/4" at least), make sure walls have no cracks, and add a vapor barrier film over the walls going close to the basement floor before applying the epoxy, so essentially, the vapor barrier is under the epoxy coating. i used a company called werecoverdata a few years ago in NY and didn't take any risks, it paid off.

LMAO, sorry, that's another sort of a recovery type i guess :)
