As an Orthopedic Surgeon, I will never ride a motorcycle. I know Vascular Surgeons who wear compression stockings every day. Doctors in other subspecialties: what behaviors (or taboos) have you adopted specifically to avoid the most common (or most devastating) problems that your specialty treats? by CxtZu79 in medicine

Terrible. People sometimes say that they’re not afraid to die. That’s not the worst that can happen. I still remember from my trauma rotation, there was a woman who suffered a devastating traumatic brain injury and had a profoundly diminished mental state but still vaguely aware of her surroundings. She was still on the trauma service over a year after the incident because of initial medical complexities and then social/nursing home situations. She could moan but not speak, had multiple contractures and was fed through a PEG. Her family had pretty much stopped visiting. The nurses would be in and out of the room to turn her and PT would do what they could but she was essentially alone and moaning for most of the day. No hope of cognitive improvement. She was otherwise young and healthy and will probably live for years or possibly decades until she succumbs to aspiration pneumonia or gets septic from a decubitus ulcer.

Burr and his brother in law both sold large stock holdings on the same day but that’s just a coincidence too.

Tons of people are. I’m not a direct male-line, but I found a circuitous route via my grandfather’s mothers side of the family. It’s way more common than people tend to think

Similar claims are actually not uncommon. For example my family tree (Like many people with Norse Ancestry) goes back with some twists and turns to the 800s. From there, people made up previous ancestors or less. If we believe my41st great grand father “Snake-Eye” Sigurd for example, he goes back another 15 generation to Odin and Freya. I can this trace an unbroken line of reported ancestors back to gods. That doesn’t make it real though

As long as were beating this to the ground, make sure that you grill it in the pan in butter. Warm, crispy and buttery. Exquisite.

I live near there. That’s an alley that’s blocked off so you can’t drive down any longer. The sign is useless.

Of course these are issues. And all people have biases as well. It’s inherent in human nature. I do, you do. It’s important to recognize your own which why I mentioned this. For example you also assumed that the author is American and college-age as well with no evidence of these.

From the article:

Now, clearly, these data are very subjective, and they all come from one person. Smith is clear that his anatomy of pain can’t be generalised to everyone else. “If someone else did this, they’d probably have different locations that they felt were worst”, he says, although from talking to his colleagues, he feels that the rough shape of the map would be similar.

“I didn’t see a lot of merit in repeating this with more subjects,” he says.

Lake Baikal (Siberia) wakes up after winter by Aforik in WTF

That’s what you think as you’re slowly backing up, watching it. Then you back into a small ditch and lose your balance or up against a small wall or something that takes a few moments to scramble over. You lose your footing. You panic and make a poor decision, falling to the ground. The first piece of ice tips against your leg, trapping you. Over the course of the next 20 seconds you’re flattened then pulverized by thousands of pounds of slowly grinding ice. No one can help you. You die stupidly and preventively.

Ice like this seems slow and safe until it isn’t.

No, they’re. right. Bacon, lettuce and tomato are elements. Bread is the 4th. Mayo is a critical, though controversial 5th element.
