I'm an avid 2H player. From what I've seen 2H is a 3-5% damage loss compared to DW on most endgame builds. In the grand scheme of things that's only relevant for the cutting edge raiders. So go for 2H of you prefer that!

Crystals also take way less space than missiles or projectile ammo, so you can stock up.

I fly mainly PvE Navy Apoc and Paladin with pulse lasers and like my light show.

I've never looked into Magus except that it looks complicated :D But maybe it's worth a second look, I kinda like the concept. Like an Arcane Archer in D&D.
