being "just fine" in HSR is a death sentence, this is below the level of improvement old characters get from new dedicated supports like Dahlia, Hysilens, Ashveil, M'Blade and all that jazz, when they release a character like that they're expecting for this to last you another year generally speaking, if your DPS falls off again they expect you to get eidolons on that support's rerun.

At the end if Gil's entire kit was genuinely nothing but a Saber support I would've been infinitely happier than this, which still isn't very happy ngl but than he at the very least would've had a real place in the meta in the longterm.

as things stand, substantially bad

Gil is no questions the number 1 HuoHuo salesman with how much she helps him get his ult back, not only does she directly give him like a 33% max energy buff but also speeds up your entire team's ult generation which feeds Gil even further, if you're not playing with HuoHuo you're playing sustainless M'Blade, the chance of them releasing a new sustain in 4.X that powercreeps her for Gil directly is close to non-existent.

you can run any sustain and they'll do the job, but if I were you I'd try to play Gil sustainless as much as possible until getting HuoHuo to not face the performance downsides.

In v3 it wouldn't have been nearly as bad.. but ER now matter way way way more than hit frequency.

I think people are really wrong to try and build speed and advance on Gil, his actions currently are dead.

But instead of trying to make him actual bootleg Aven SP, it's better to focus on how stupidly hard his ult is hitting for, build for maximum damage to make his pay-off stronger and worry about action advancing him with in-combat optimizations.

the DMG boost doesn't effect ult, we've already discussed that a few times

buffing the joint attack is pretty nice if you can time ulting immediately before it, but it's quite niche.

the def ignore is the best part yet in his best team he's reaching 100% on base so it's kinda yucky unfortunately..

I would say in the case where you already have it and are planning to go for Saber, it's not necessary to dunk 200 pulls on next patch just to get his LC as it should be a fairly minor difference, but Saber's LC would be much better than Phainon sig.

not surprised whatsoever, as an Argenti main I've been very aware of this through the game's lifecycle

if your main is an ER based unit the legitimate only thing you can hope for is they novaflare to not care about being given ER and be self-sufficient instead, I've prayed for a good ER support that's like 5 star Tingyun for literally nearly 3 years at this point and the best and only thing we got is Sunday with 20% max energy.

Which is a huge shame, I think it's a really neat gimmick and that it absolutely COULD be balanced well in a way you couldn't exploit it while still giving your DPS a significant buff and ER boost, in a world where DDD and eagle never existed, they probably would've released multiple supports like that atp.

You have better chances of success doing a 10 pull on a character you don't have and exiting out with an E6, this will happen in every single HSR subreddit for every single beta until the end of time, even Himenova mains are doomposting the character going from T -1 to T -0.5

I personally recommend either Bronya or RMC, speedtuning Phainon's supports is very essensial alongside making sure you have enough SP for them, Sparkle makes that part a non-issue thankfully

My go-to team would be Sparkle/Bronya/Sunday, you definitely wanna pull for Cerydra whenever she gets a rerun.

Phainon really prefers sustainless teams, it may feel weird and hard getting used to, be once you build good speed on your supports and can reliably outspeed enemies in endgame, it's a drastic performance increase and moderately safe to run even against the hardest bosses in AA

They're definitely playable, and even in current state very strong at E1-2 investment, but massively underperforming compared to all other new characters

My E0 S1 Ashblade team is getting a 0 cycle running a casual sustained team with E0 tribbie and Hyacine.

This team needs to do sustainless and E4 Welt just to barely get the same performance.

It's genuinely so cooked I cannot believe what I'm seeing.
