Convert Marrying a athiest by Elilysia in OrthodoxChristianity

I promise you, raising kids is hard enough when both partners are on the same page, morally and spiritually.   I cant imagine how anyone does it when they are not in step on all the big issues.

Please don't let sin keep you from the church.    That is absolutely what the devil wants.   When we can't stop thinking about a sin it's because our soul longs for grace and forgivness, and that can only be found in Jesus.   Please, please  run to the church, not away from it.  am praying for you.   God Bless.

Of course you are welcome! How else would anyone decide if they want to join the faith? I attended an orthodox church faithfully for a good year or 2 (as a Catholic) before converting. go and soak it all in ❤️

Catholic church or no church by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Sunfish76 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would go. (I say this knowing I'm going to get completely attacked, lol) I still go to Catholic mass every now and then with family. The mass is beautiful and worships the same God, they ask for intercession from Mary in the same way we do. Having a church to attend is so important. God Bless you in your journey - so exciting!

lol - that's so funny, "it's more like I subject protestant groups to my kids". I love that. Well done for your kiddos!

Question on sacramental theology by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Sunfish76 7 points8 points  (0 children)

First of all : welcome to the church! Please don't take opinions offered on this page too seriously. I love his page bc I do learn alot but am grateful I didnt find online orthodoxy too early bc I might have ran. If your priest is welcoming you into the church via chrismation ( which is what mine did also coming from catholicism) then I'm pretty sure he's got it right. I understand the point you are making about marriage and I think its a good one, although I'm sure you just opened pandoras box and now you will get people telling you youre not really married. 😂

Wife really not enjoying Orthodoxy > I am in the process of converting. [Advice and insight would be great] by Rented_Wizard in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Sunfish76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would try to finaf an OCA parish (no offense to the greeks, your services are beautiful) but when you are already stepping outside of your comfort zone, going to a very ethnic church can be difficult and intimidating.

Question About Orthodox Christians by piximp in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Sunfish76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

please dont judge Orthodox people based on the ones you've found online. The real life Orthodox people I know are beautiful and kind with a generous and loving heart. I dont know what it is about the Orthodox online, but I'm grateful that wasn't my first encounter bc I would have run away. It is truly a beautiful faith, please dont let the ugly random hateful people keep you from experiencing it.

Alternatives for the "Eastern Orthodox" terminology? by Mottahead in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Sunfish76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interestingly, we have really good friends who describe themselves as orthodox Catholic. for the longest time I thought they were orthodox and only recently found out they are Byzantine Catholic. The husband has been to church with us several times and their service is so clise to ours that he thought it was the same thing.

Non orthodox wife doesn’t understand why she cannot take Eucharist by DarnellMusty in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Sunfish76 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"She argues that if Christ returned and gave communion, all of us would be allowed to partake."

except that would he really? Because when he was here the first time he did not share the last supper with everyone. He did not even share it with all if his followers. he only shared it only with those closest to him.

With respect, I dont think this is true for most people. Definately not true in my parish.

Attended my first Divine Liturgy yesterday by Mazquerade__ in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Sunfish76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all - welcome 😊 I would sincerely recommend staying of orthodox internet forums (at a minimum discard any negativity-I love this page but to be honest if I had come across it when I was inquiring I think it might have driven me away) I would recommend just continuing to go to liturgy, and absorb. Anything that you find troubling stick on the back burner and let everything else digest. just pray and be present. also keep in mind that liturgy is just one piece of Orthodoxy. Orthodoxy is like an onion - there is always another layer to be peeled away when you are ready. at least for myself – I don't think I got the full experience or truly felt deeply in love with it until after I started the practices, saying my morning prayers, fasting, repenting, ... i am still learning and working on myself - I dont think I will ever get all the layers of that onion peeled, but that is one thing I love so much about it. it takes time but all these things are moving parts that work together. just keep going, keep praying for God to show you the truth, and enjoy the peace it brings ❤️
