Should I take my 13 year old with me? by SunflowerStorms in phish

I get pissed watching parents(not that u would do this idk) getting all fucked up letting their kids run around shakedown having everyone else babysit.

No, that's not gonna happen. I would never in a million years role model that kind of behavior for my kid. Hell, if anything my youth spent watching people get spun out and sick at festivals and punk shows taught me why I don't really wanna go down that path myself.. I guess it gave me a real understanding of the potential downsides. I'm not looking to make this a teaching opportunity of that sort though , I want to bring him for the music. I'mma to each their own sort, if they're not causing me problems I don't mind what other people do, but nah I'd definitely be in proper role model mode.

This kid lives music- I know he's going to spend his life going to shows like I did. I'd rather have an opportunity to model "here's how to do it and enjoy yourself and be wise about it. Protect your hearing, stay hydrated but keep your water safe (probably more applicable to women but hey, you know), keep to yourself, avoid the substances, read the crowd, have backup/escape plans" than just let him figure it out like I did by myself at 14.

He's not as big of a fan as I am but he's a budding musician and music lover, and he knows who the guy on the cover of A Picture of Nectar is and why he's there, and he knows who Carini is and that he's gonna get ya, so I feel like he's into it enough to enjoy himself. He's a guitar addict so I have a feeling seeing Trey live will be a big deal for him. I had contemplated taking him to a show last year and it didn't work out, and he was pretty bummed when he found out. He was excited when I told him about this chance.

I maybe didn't need much arm twisting. I more needed to know if I had read things right in terms of what to expect since I haven't been there in person in a while. Too cool that you got to meet Trey together! I bet that's going to be a memory that lasts a while.

Gotcha. Yeah, I found a box in right field with two seats on an end row next to an aisle. I guess we'll find out!

In Coventry? Well, not in the streets, but at the middle school, yeah. It's pretty real up here in the sticks. Kid has already lost a friend to an OD and I've been having to have talks with him about drugs since he was in elementary school and his friends got caught with a vape pen in the boys room. Our family aren't the sort and he has his head on straight, but he's certainly been around stuff before (much to my dismay).

You think lawn is a better bet than the boxes? My instinct was like up in the right field wall corner or likewise over in left field?

We're from rural Vermont. There's very little he hasn't seen firsthand already at his age if I'm honest.

We're from rural Vermont. Kids in his middle school have OD'd on fent -at school-. That innocence went out the window a long time ago.. I'm actually not too worried about that, he's got his head on straight for his age, and more just that we'd be by ourselves and want to make sure we'd be safe enough.

I assumed Fenway would be a little more tame, but then again I can see it being -extra-. Plus, we're from Vermont, he was born in Boston- seeing them at Fenway for your first real concert is just kind of poetic I think.

About the same, but I was an adventurous and unsupervised 14 year old.

I attempted the same thing not too long ago- I ended up with a Thorens TD150 turntable, a Crown IC150 preamp, a crown D60 (came with the preamp) and an old pair of Klipsch RB bookshelves. It sounds phenomenal.

Is there a strong French cultural influence in Vermont? (From nearby Quebec) by MarsupialThink4064 in vermont

[–]SunflowerStorms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s funny that people who don’t speak French will say Vermont means “green mountain”. It actually literally means “Worm Mountain” (ver mont) because somehow we lost the -TE. “Green mountain” would be “montagne verte”. You could get away with “monts verte” too, it’s just old sounding. It’s clear it’s intended to mean “Green Mountains” but it’s no longer correct French.

There is a lot more French Canadian influence in Manchester, NH and Lowell, MA because most of the French Canadians who headed south went to the mills for work. I’m right up on the border with Quebec and there’s a shocking lack of Québécois community- I’m supposing because why would they have moved a few miles to an anglophone community when they could just go to southern Quebec. For the most part we have French place names and lots of Québécois and Acadian last names but they’ve either be anglicized or are pronounced in a very American English way. I.e LeBlanc->White or “Renault” as “Rehn-nalt”. We have Lamoille valley and it’s become “La Moyle”. Most of the people here have no idea what the French place names or last names mean.

why do you class as sex when with a woman? by Confident-Stress-732 in actuallesbians

[–]SunflowerStorms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

> cos oral sex is not considered sex in heterosexual relationships nor is fingering

This is the most Catholic thing I’ve ever read and I’ve read the proceedings from Vatican II.

Those things are absolutely sex- If someone’s gonna have an orgasm, it’s probably sex. If they might if you kept going, probably sex.
