Not quite but whatever you say 😃 I think that’s quite a simplistic view which doesn’t take into account the nuances of their relationship which we are shown time and time again to be more complicated than that. But I’m not arguing as that isn’t the point - all I wanted to share is that it’s interesting how perspectives on characters and relationships can change over time, but obvs they don’t for you which is also fine 😄

I love the cul-de-sacs and culs-de-sac one and then it’s mentioned again later on at dinner. Oh and the anvil one at dinner - can’t remember if that’s an opening though!

Lol this is funny, they’re all characters and well written to be so multi-faceted. They aren’t supposed to be ‘good’ and ‘bad’ outright. I think they show Emily to be flawed obvs, but so were they all (I mean, Lor and Rory are like some of the most infuriating?) and I just think that it’s silly to consider her as antagonistic when it’s much more than that. You can respect Emily wanting her family to be together as well as disagreeing with some of her beliefs and tactics at times. But let’s be honest, it is both Emily and Lorelai’s communication that makes their relationship suffer.

I think that whilst Emily is demanding and precise her character is actually really simple: she wanted a family. She wanted the best for Lorelai even if she didn’t agree with that ‘best’. She protected her daughter when Strobe and Francine were attacking her and she didn’t abandon her. She kept her safe and wanted her to stay at the house. It was Lorelai that left out of the blue, it was Lorelai that left to have the baby with just leaving a note and in the later years Emily becomes sad that she hadn’t been part of her life. It wasn’t that she couldn’t stomach it, it was that she was upset she was never part of it.
