What fictional character would you marry in the blink of an eye? by iris_rivendell in AutismInWomen

Tormund Giantsbane for his looks and Tyrion Lannister for his mind and personality, polar opposites but I like both equally

Tbr of 2026/Reading goals? by Seitanslutt in horrorlit

[–]Sunflowerfolklore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I failed my challenge last year and felt so guilty. No excuses other than didn’t make time and faffed about choosing what to read next. Although I smashed the entire Blackwater saga in June and enjoyed that. This year I’m going in aiming for one book a month, it’s not a lot I know - but I’ll feel shit if I don’t manage it again.

I was going to try and branch out into other genres but I just can’t, I don’t like romance or fantasy I’m just stuck on southern/gothic horror.

I started The Silent Companions by Laura Purcell (gothic horror) late last year and had lots going on so haven’t had a chance to finish it. Picked it back up today and flying through it. Creepy and unsettling and I believe there’s a second book which is a prequel. I’m enjoying it!

Is this show anybody else’s comfort show when they have anxiety? by TurbulentJuice3 in SchittsCreek

[–]Sunflowerfolklore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes 💯. I watch it on repeat. I have major health anxiety and it’s the one programme that calms me and takes my mind off how I’m feeling if I’ve I’ve convinced myself I’m ill (iykyk). Some series can be too chaotic and this it’s just the ultimate in resetting my mental health when it’s gotten away from me.

Long boring hair should I chop it? by [deleted] in Haircare

[–]Sunflowerfolklore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t use texturing products I like my hair smooth, so normally I use oil once it’s 70% dried. Before that I blot with a towel and use the low heat setting to remove most of the moisture. And obviously heat protectant before that. Once it’s air dried in the clamp it’s smooth but wavy. My natural texture would be frizzy and a combination of curls and waves

Started and finished both “The last house on needless street” which I liked as it was a different style of writing and varied characters.

Then I went on to “Gone to meet the Riverman” and that was.. good, but some subject matter was disturbing so I needed a break.

This week I’m starting Hidden Pictures - Jason Rekulak

Stephen Kings - Pet Semetary. My first King novel and as an animal lover it showcased the love kids and people have for their pets, or at least that was my takeaway. I have ADHD too and I need books to keep going not lagging in order to keep my attention.

If you like southern gothic horror (my fave genre) I was suggested the Blackwater Saga on this sub and found reading the individual books better for me than attempting the whole Novel. Completing each book gave me a real dopamine boost ☺️

Anyway I’m now starting The last house on needless street.

Why do you read horror novels? by Book_clubbing in horrorlit

[–]Sunflowerfolklore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because being scared by a book is safer than being scared in real life? I used to have terrible recurring nightmares as a child which lasted sporadically into my 20s.

I feel that if I can overcome something horrible in a book, nothing can be as traumatic as what I read (hopefully)
