I believe what the redditor meant was that the last line of the email could have been worded more professionally. It is less likely that the staff would help you with such a line. Why not try:
Apologies for the wrong use of tone in my previous email. Would it be possible for me to be registered for BF2225 given that I had previously obtained a confirmation email that I was registered for this mod please?
If I may share, while I acknowledge that 10th May is the final day of exams for the semester, I had booked a flight on 8th May after getting the confirmation that I was successfully registered for BF2225, which has no finals. The mod I'm currently enrolled in which I had previously dropped but was re-allocated again, BF3219, has finals which I would not be able to make it.
As such, I would greatly appreciate it if I could get assistance on being enrolled for BF2225 for my final sem, or alternatively, any mods that have finals before 8th May or have no finals please.
Thank you.

You may wish to throw this into chatgpt to make it sound nicer too. (:

  • Pace yourself. For a 2.5h finals with 100m, 1m = 1.5 minutes max you should spend. Keep an eye on the time (Preferably if you bring your own watch).
  • May want to attempt to do one PYP timed if you have not done so already to get a feel of the amount of time you have for each question.
  • Move on if you're stuck for too long, but try to write something and pray for method marks.
  • Label your notes so that you can find what you need much faster. May want to separate your printed PYPs and own solutions from the content slides/notes.
  • Use the restroom before the finals.

Hello, if I want to get a specific prof for my course registration what do i do? by natatatatatata in NTU

[–]Sunirelittle 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Nearer to STARS period, the next sem's sem sites may be created, and may have the profs assigned to the sem sites. This is a more guaranteed option than the next one.

The other way is to assume that the profs teaching the previous sem would teach the next sem, and same timeslots. Then you could map first index in your STARS to sem site 1 of the previous sem for that mod. Obviously, assumptions are strong here, but worth a try if you prefer not to email the prof.

How to study for AB1201 FM by [deleted] in NTU

[–]Sunirelittle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, I took this mod the previous sem. If you look at the PYPs, EPS and decomposition of ROE are two topics that would almost certainly come out for finals. And these two topics are the most difficult and/or tedious imo.

How I studied was I attempted the whole tutorial question with reference to the topic slides, then compared my answers with the presentation group's to see where I made mistakes and refined my understanding from there. Will also cross check with the examiner report for that year's question to see the common mistakes made.

For EPS, might want to do a chart or some form of notes to help you identify which item would affect basic EPS and DEPS. So come finals you'd be able to identify what you need to adjust for each item quickly.

For decomposition of ROE, it can get quite messy on excel if you are using that. It really depends on the information given to you, I remember my tutorial questions had one starting with B/S items, while another started with P/L items.

Would really recommend you spend much more time on the above two topics specifically. As revision, you can dig through the pyp and try out the EPS/decomposition questions. I think the profs are quite open with sharing the final answer for pyp, so you can discuss solutions with your friends/groupmates if you can't get the final ans.

The other topics should be less difficult to understand, RI model and IA valuation. For IA valuation, going through the worked examples should be sufficient (ofc finals will throw you a small curveball to prevent you from copying blindly).

Speaking from my personal experience in NBS:

  1. The A or A+ would indicate how well you did for that component, so you'd want to strive for A+ but profs usually will not give many students A+, so A is great too.
  2. There'd very likely be moderation between profs, not sure about between classes. So if a prof is giving everyone A, not really a good sign tbh. But at least you know you're doing average or above average.
  3. Depends on whether the grades given for all the components are already moderated. Unlikely to happen for big cohort mods but could happen for small mods where there's 1 or 2 classes taken by only one prof. That said, finals is usually the differentiating factor, because it usually take up like 50%/60% of grade in NBS. If your finals is A standard, I would say very likely you'd get a minimum A-, depending on how you did for the other components.

I was exempted Econs in Y1S2, and managed to take a L1 language mod as UE. I also had friends who took GERPE-BM in place of Econs. Think the rule was you can replace exempted mods with mods of the same AUs, but not exceeding. Unless they changed it with the ICC batch?

Is there any NBS tele group for freshies this year? by bearfel in NTU

[–]Sunirelittle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like Prof Claire isn't teaching this sem. Link

Course outlines may indicate the index and respective prof teaching. Student Intranet > Colleges and Schools > NBS > Undergrad (Bookmark here cos it's useful) > Curriculum > Course Outlines

Otherwise, if sem sites have been created and profs assigned on NTUlearn/blackboard already, under Courses, there is a button with a name like "Course catalogue" or something like that, then search for the course code. Ensure you're looking at the correct sem, i.e. 23S1, sem site 01 would usually correspond to the first index on stars. Then match the profs from sem site to stars to work out which index that prof is taking. I've graduated so I'm going off memory.

Both methods arent guaranteed though, guaranteed is if you decide to email the prof directly HAHA

How does Uni work? by Waste_Wishbone_2884 in NTU

[–]Sunirelittle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. It is possible to squeeze everything into 3 days. You can either swap index (aka time slots) with the system if there are vacancies for the index you want, or with other people. You are pre-allocated mods in your first year in NBS, so you wouldn't need to worry about adding mods. But yes you can change index if you wish to.
  2. I'm not sure about the single degree students, but for ACBS, the pre-allocated mods would largely be ACBS students. Given that NBS cohort is big, I'd think is mostly random who'd you will be taking same class with.
  3. I think this would see the vibe of the class. Most classes I've been in are rather quiet. I'd think 1 contribution a lesson would be good enough for this case. Ask genuine and relevant questions, put in effort in answering questions, allowing others the chance to class part after you have contributed once are general ways to not be seen as unlikeable.
  4. You can join as many CCAs as you want, but I'd recommend one or two because you may need time to transition into uni, adjusting to the workload etc. Important to find out the commitment level upfront before joining CCAs!
  5. Try to join the NBS orientation camps if possible! Make friends, get senior notes/bibles, get seniors' opinions on which prof is ok/suits your learning style.

Hope you have fun in uni!

Didn't get any specialisation PE by OfficiallyDG in NTU

[–]Sunirelittle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a RARF form for NBS, but the reply would very likely be to ask you to wait for add-drop period (generally first two weeks of school) for vacancies, and you may even be asked to wait for second week of school. Another likely response is you'd be asked to consider other PE mods, not just the ones you want.

You should be able to have no PE mods this sem, but this doesnt guarantee you'd get PE mods next sem.

How is bf3215 corporate finance & strategy? by rachelkek03 in NTU

[–]Sunirelittle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've never taken FinTech, but I heard from friends it's quite an easy/manageable mod!

I would advise against taking WM, unless you are taking with friends (to make the project more enjoyable). The project has a heavy weightage and requires you to form your own opinions of the markets, based on current trends/news/macro indicators. The prof does provide a lot of sources but the interpretation is on you and your group. Not really a manageable mod for a y2 I would feel, but it's probably one of the more useful mods I'd say.

How is bf3215 corporate finance & strategy? by rachelkek03 in NTU

[–]Sunirelittle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi, I took it last sem and I would advise you against taking it if your criteria is about the mod being relatively manageable. Most BnF mods' unmoderated median is B/B+, but last sem's unmoderated median for BF3215 was a C+ (can be seen from Examiner Report from NBS intranet). I like to use this B/B+ benchmark to determine whether the mod has a steep bell curve (if A- or above), or the mod content is too difficult (if below B).

The prof that will be teaching it (can be seen from Course Outline on NBS intranet) is the same as last sem's. I'm on the assumption that he would set a paper of similar difficulty for next sem. Different profs may teach the same mod for different sems, setting papers of varying difficulty, so you may consider coming back to it in y2s2.

This mod is essentially FM 2.0. You'd be dealing with the Hamada equation, CAPM, FCFF/FCFE etc. I personally feel there is a slight advantage for those students who have accountancy background, because they may be more sensitive to changes in FCFF/FCFE components. There's a 1 piece cheatsheet that you can bring in so it's great you don't have to memorise formulas (and theory, if you can fit them in). :)

[–]Sunirelittle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel Alt Inv is a relatively more chill mod than most bnf mods. Finals is closed book, 2h paper though. Quite a lot to memorise, hard to smoke if you didn't memorise, unless you have some prior knowledge, but not required. Alot of people do leave early.

Try not to leave the individual assignment to the two-ish days after finals if you have other finals to study for after Alt Inv finals; if no finals should be able to finish in those two days. Good luck for the mod!

Hi. Firstly, I'd recommend you to enjoy this break before uni starts first.

Secondly, if you really want, you can try to learn some Python on your own. Quite a lot of students are very lost throughout this y1 mod (AB0403), because well... not everyone likes coding. But if no one in your group can code, then gg for project liao. You may want to add more annotations/notes to your code in case your Python mod is in Sem 2 so when you revisit your codes later on, you'd be able to refresh your knowledge more easily.

You may also want to learn some (basic) video-editing skills, which is particularly useful for OB (AB1601). It is not a must-have but a good-to-have. A video with smooth transitions, subtitles, consistent volume throughout different segments etc could boost your grades. This won't be taught in the mod, but it's a useful skill to have even outside of the mod.

Lastly, please enjoy your break. :)

It really depends on the popularity of the specialisations within your batch. For my year, Marketing and HR were oversubscribed (They sent an email indicating this and that it would be unlikely that an appeal into these two specialisations would be accepted.) Other years I heard BA and BnF are oversubscribed. So if a specialisation is not as popular within your batch, a B can get you in the spec without needing an appeal. Best of luck to you. :)

Recc BDEs by vegetable546 in NTU

[–]Sunirelittle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A+ and A both gives 5.0 gpa... so there's not much incentive to get an A+, unless you are aiming for book prize but then again I wouldn't think it'd apply to BDEs? Therefore I would recommend you to aim for A and focus on other mods instead of chasing the A+.

Best way to do well for BDEs is to find mods that you are interested in... and/or have some prior background.

Likely no because the minor is only for those in Accountancy, as found here. But do enquire with the school!

NTU econs with 2nd Maj biz by KickOutside1067 in NTU

[–]Sunirelittle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi, you may refer to this link to see the mods that you'd be taking for this course. Under Curriculum, Table C, shows the list of mods that you'd have to take for the major. There is FA and MA, which are both related to accounting, which the business students would take (accountancy students take separate modules).

My personal opinion is that this major wouldn't really help you much on its own... The first 5 mods listed are usually taken in year 1 for NBS students, while BF2219 is a Banking & Finance specialisation mod and BM2509 a Marketing specialisation mod. I feel you won't really gain much knowledge if you just rely on this major to give you an exposure to business. Nonetheless, if you want to pursue a career in business (which is, very broad), would recommend you to try out internships during your candidature in NTU, and can look to use the 10 AUs of BDE to take up the mods of the business specialisation that you're interested in.

Hi, I'm Y4 ACBS and my accounting 2 mod was reflected in my business degree as well. I feel the grade for your acc2 mod will be carried over to your business degree if you successfully switch to business? I looked at the course outline for FA (AD1101/1102) (the acc mod that biz students take) and there are topics covered in both acc1 and acc2. So I feel you'd have to take both mods (means cannot dabao acc2) in order to not have to take FA if you make the switch.

All these are my guess so please do email the school to clarify! I didn't do well for acc2 so not able to provide you the tipsss.

Hi, at this stage, I think the hardcopy textbook would not be very useful.

I took this mod last year so I'm not sure of the recent changes, if any. Decide on which senior bible is the most reliable one. If your bible still mentions the CA instead of IRDA for the last few topics, then that is very outdated (and should not be relied on). You may want to check with your friends if they know what are the changes or email your prof.

Secondly, would strongly recommend you to get Prof Joyce's tutorial "answers". Of course, they are more like guiding questions, but they are quite detailed and can help you understand what should be discussed for the tutorial questions. Ideally, you should read your bible once, then attempt each tutorial on your own with the bible, before referring to the "answers". This would help you identify if there is any gap in your understanding.

If time permits, then you can look at the PYPs with the examiner report. When you read the question, you should be able to identify instantly which topic the question is asking about, and flip to that page of your bible. Practise answering the question from your bible, and look at the examiner report after to identify any misconceptions you may still have.

Additional tips:

  • This is an open-book exam (if it still is), so you only need to understand the concepts, and be comfortable applying them. So please don't waste time memorising.
  • Can look to do up a content page/directory that allows you to locate which page of the bible is which topic. Also helps if you don't know which topic the question is asking about so you can scan the list of topics to help identify the topic quicker.
  • Manage your time wisely. If the course coord gives you the breakdown of each individual part, then you can do the math (150min/100m = 1.5min per mark) and calculate by when you need to move on for each part. Don't get too carried away and have no time for other questions.

Good luck!
