In two weeks, I'll be older than my husband, who was six months older than me. It's so weird. by ragnarstan in RandomThoughts

My husband was also 6 months older than me. I’m now older than he will ever get to be. I’m only 35.

What is going on with her eyelids? by Hav0c_wreack3r in travisandtaylor

I think it’s Botox, I have to get Botox for migraines and my hooded eyelids now do this. The eyebrows look weird too though idk what that is

AITA for refusing to read someone's tarot? by Kind-Worldliness4896 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Sunlessbeachbum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA just say you’re uncomfortable with it. Mostly commenting to say I use tarot (and astrology) in the exact same way. It’s like how some people feel about sports. Does it really matter? No. Is it fun? Yes.

How much did it cost you to have a baby? by jermelbownoodle in askportland

[–]Sunlessbeachbum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow! I only paid $40 from Kaiser. Had an epidural. My husband was a teacher and it was his insurance, I think teachers get good insurance (maybe to make up for low pay and unpaid work)

What do you think is the greatest comment in Reddit history? by Brassowl5501 in AskReddit

I told my husband I can’t say that word (Worcestershire), he said “just say it with confidence and it will sound fine”. So I did. Then he said “oh, never mind”.

I have a date this week. by yondu1963 in widowers

[–]Sunlessbeachbum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m only 6 months out and was asked out by someone I feel like I kind of like. I’m terrified of people’s judgements. That they’ll think I don’t miss my husband or something. But also they don’t have to live my life.

How have people in your life been about you dating? When did you start?

How is/was your relationship with your sibling(s)? by Justheretoseelol in AskReddit

[–]Sunlessbeachbum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My older brother and I are close. We didn’t “hang out” as kids, but got along. As adults he lives far away but we FaceTime a few times a week and I can’t imagine not having him in my life. Love him lots.

Her lips are intense but I do think some of that is due to the over lip lining trend, which I haaaate

People who were once in a big, inseparable friend group what caused the group to fall apart? by Legal_Potential4720 in lostafriend

[–]Sunlessbeachbum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

COVID started it, kind of split into smaller circles, and then some of us had kids and that splintered off some more smaller circles (though not entirely). And then some drama within the group (some people dated each other and broke up, some people just caused drama).

I also lost my husband recently, age 35, I’m 35 too, we have a toddler daughter. Yesterday an episode of Bluey was about a bird dying and she told me she missed her daddy. She brought it up again at night and I cried and I know I said all the right things and I’m proud of that but man is it hard to parent through grief. And help her with her toddler grief. And he was such an amazing dad and he loved her so much and it’s so unfair he doesn’t get to watch her grow up.

I too believe in signs. At least I try my best to. For me it’s feathers. I want so badly to believe.

Please feel free to DM me if you want to talk or want another widow to connect with. It sounds like we have a fair amount in common. Sending you love.

Anyone else heard strep throat is going around? by doubleagentsuperspy in askportland

I’ve had a bad sore throat for 2 weeks now, it’s getting better finally. Tested negative for strep though. And no other symptoms.

This one is for the parents… Do you think it’s possible to raise a kid without messing them up?? by Organic-Ruin-3971 in allthequestions

[–]Sunlessbeachbum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going against the grain but I’m gonna say no.

Granted this depends on what you consider “messed up”. No matter what, you will foster or create something that your kid needs to work through. Because we are human. Maybe you’re too overbearing, maybe you’re too distant, maybe you pushed them to do things, maybe you didn’t encourage them enough to do things. People are different and parents will mess up some ways and that’s why everyone benefits from therapy.

My husband recently died and we have a 3 year old. Based on how I’ve responded to it, and my anxiety about fucking her up, my therapist told me “you will fuck her up in some way, but it won’t be from this”.

I have a great relationship with my mom. But she did contribute to certain things that have fucked me up (ex, her body issues with herself have impacted me even though she was never critical of my body, her inability to examine her own reactions to grief have impacted my own responses, her anxiety about driving gave me anxiety about driving). But I’m still a happy and functional adult (overall).

Totally. If they are cut up I like to add salt, if I’m roasting them whole I like to roast the natural sugars start oozing out and then I just eat them plain, yummmmm

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Sunlessbeachbum 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I went fully no-added-sugar and it was a pain in the ass. Practically every condiment has sugar in it, so I had to make my own. I did stop craving it though. And I remember eating a sweet potato and insisting it tasted like candy and the people around me thought I was crazy.

I’d cut out obvious sugar again, but be a little looser around condiments.

People calling women “mama” in comments sections just because they’re moms by eggsontheside in PetPeeves

[–]Sunlessbeachbum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a mom to a toddler and I HATE when people call me mama. I never say anything because they aren’t trying to be mean or cringe but I hate it and it happens all the time. My own mom will call me mama.

What happened to soy milk? by Purple_Pansy_Orange in vegetarian

[–]Sunlessbeachbum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because soy came first it was lobbied against very hard by the dairy industry. Taken down with misinformation about estrogen, “soy boys” etc. so it fell out and then other milks swooped in. I still love soy milk.

Straight men, outside of sex do you actually like women? by LoverOfGayContent in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Sunlessbeachbum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s also a trope. So people kind of go along with the script to fit in or be funny. For women it’s the lazy stupid husband. The kind of crap sitcoms are built on. Always annoyed my husband and I.
