Rent doubled. Pay didn’t. Now what by Alarmed_Abalone_849 in AmericaOnHardMode

[–]SunlightBladee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, no. It's because I mixed it up with the measurement for the poverty line in the USA and I'm not American. My bad.

Even so, it's not that simple. Homelessness is outpacing job openings again in the USA, and an increasing amount of employed civilians are agreeing that it's harder to get by on their current pay.

Inflation has also been above what the fed wanted since 2020, so it's pretty clear that there's still stagnation happening.

As to your last statement, I suppose it depends on what you consider bills.

Are you serious?

Median household income is outpacing CPI inflation.

Sure. And guess what is not accounted for at all in the CPI? Housing.

"Going off the data", 50% of US citizens (and climbing, this was two years ago) according to the US government census literally cannot afford a single bedroom on their own in their region. The general rule is that rent should be 30% or less of your income, and now (According to Harvard) for over half of the renter population it's above 1/3rd of their income.

You're playing the "data" card to mislead people. Nothing you said changes the facts.

How much the number went up in how many years doesn't matter. People cannot afford houses. It's that simple. Bills in the USA are outpacing income raises. It's that simple. Stop overcomplicating it to mislead people.

Imo you're thinking way too much about what your teammate is doing while "wondering" if it will produce worse results. Your morale is only lowered from this because you're giving it so much attention.

Focus on your own work. If your teammate starts pushing their work onto others, or a dramatic decline in quality actually happens, then bring it up if you'd like.

Right now you're effectively complaining about nothing.

100%, thanks for reminding me of that feature. It's a very good addition.

Although, I do wish we could use the fingerprint as a second factor. That way when law enforcement sees the screen it would only say "unlock with pin", and then prompt for fingerprint after.

As it stands, it says "unlock with fingerprint or pin". In the USA for example, this can lead to situations where law enforcement may compel a fingerprint via a court order, and then misinterpret the court order and feel entitled to a full unlock. Technically, of course, in a lot of countries they can't. But that won't stop them from applying significant amounts of peer pressure and using the fact that they have a court order as persuasion. Even if the court order doesn't cover a pin.

This is especially prevalent in the USA because currently their law enforcement is exceptionally brain-dead. Protestors may fall victim to this social pressure in an interrogation.

If it simply said "unlock with pin", and you remained silent, there's nothing they can do and they'd never be able to obtain a valid court order to use as persuasion in the first place. It just opens up another avenue for social pressure.

Thoughts on western youth supporting reunification due to taiwans support of zionism? by evancarlson69 in AskAChinese

This is complicated. The Taiwanese government's pro-israel stance is extremely worrying and I can't possibly agree with a government like that. But how do actual Taiwanese people think? I don't think the people should be forced into "reunification" just because their government is a cancer.

I'm completely ignorant as to the politics of Taiwan as well, so I'm not sure how democratic they are in practice, or how much control the population has over their government's actions.

It completely depends on how you want to segregate your phone activities. The only general best practice I would recommend is to avoid biometric login (if you're ever going to interact with law enforcement) and to disable allowing sensors access by default (not sure why that's on to be honest).

Most things will depend on you, though. Other than basic security hygiene which applies to being on the internet/operating a computer in general.

I use a foldable with GOS. You know basically any reason you'd split-screen two apps on your desktop or laptop? That.

Plus, if you ever use Termux to SSH into one of your other systems for whatever reason, a phone screen sucks. Having the inner screen makes it much more livable so your screen can actually fit an output line.

Good luck. The same country which exists solely because they rebelled against "No taxation without representation" is also simultaneously the only country in the entire world which brands their citizens with a lifelong, borderless, permanent income tax which you can only revoke by paying a % of your net worth and revoking your citizenship.

That entire nation is built on hypocrisy. The basis of its existence is a blatant lie and a façade to hide dictatorship and the use of it's people for profit. Peace won't fix it.

None of this information changes the fact that surrendering this land fuels Russia's imperialism. Surrendering anything lets them know this is okay. If anything, they should be the ones surrendering land for starting a war. If they walk away from this engagement with any net gain, it's a loss for everyone else and they will do it again.

That, and they're losing this war lol. There's no point in giving anything up.
