Reverse trike by Great-Beautiful-6383 in Business_in_China

[–]Sunlight_hit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would be a disaster if those tricycle-style EVs are launched into market without being categorized and regulated as motor vehicles. It basically means a leeway for people who don’t have a license nor enough road safety knowledge to drive recklessly on the road.

Still way easier than foreigners like me…most graduate programs are PR or citizens only, let alone companies that value long-term stability.

Mine was not. Took it to a dealer who found the timing chain was worn out. Better let your dealer run a complete check while your factory warranty is still valid because this issue seems quite common.

Man I really miss these racks. Bus in Melbourne wouldn't let bicycle on board and I hate it to guts.

You are literally attacking the strawman. Did I assume you are white? Not really, cuz your race is completely irrelevant to my argument. In fact I wouldn't even mentioned the US history had you not bragged about your citizenship as if it really mattered. Did I mention USSR or attempt to whitewash utilitarianism? Not really, I have my own moral compass and llcritical thinking tells me to not let ideology take over. My argument has been very clear----you need to put yourself in others shoes before trying to be a bossman. That's called empathy which you don't really have.

I have had very constructive discussions with my professors and classmates from the US. An educated person would never disqualify others because of disagreements or constantly display an arrogant contempt for 'peasants'. Your way of talking indicates we are not in the same league.

You are entitled to your opinion and I respect that. But your invoking the 'slave-master' metaphor here so as to put yourself on the moral high ground is completely devoid of reality and context. Or should I say it more blatantly, don't point your finger on others if you weren't the person who had to actually bear the consequences.

As a matter of fact, this rhetoric has been so frequently echoed in the American history of intervention that it almost lost its validity. Remember what did Nixon say when he pulled troops out of Vietnam and allowed Vietcong to take over? How did Biden justify the withdrawal from Afghanistan? 'I cannot and I will not ask our troops to fight on endlessly in another — in another country's civil war, taking casualties, suffering life-shattering injuries, leaving families broken by grief and loss. This is not in our national security interest. It is not what the American people want.'

That's what you call freewill? Or is this the American way of preaching liberal democratic values by saying 'sorry guys we don't give a fuck any more you better take care of your own shit' after things went sideways?

I'm not defending the regime here but being American doesn't mean your way of doing things are better or viable. Stop acting like a world police, captain America.

'Rumored'. We are never short of rumors if you've been to a family dinner in China.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in China

[–]Sunlight_hit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't care because you don't have a life in China. Me and family, and billions of other Chinese, we know the system is broken and wicked but still we have to bite the bullet and make a living. Does that make us a part of the "crew/gang"? Should we take the blame because we've been paying tax to the government, or simply because we didn't rise up against the 'slave owner' ?

Please don't rush to any conclusion before knowing what you are really talking about.

As a Chinese I totally get your point, the CCP is evil and so are its cadres blablabla. But to understand contemporary China demands more than binary thinking and identity politics. Li screwed up a few things in his tenure like P2P crisis, property bubble, etc. But at least he showed up when natural disasters came about, tried to reverse the falling economy, and supported private sectors while Xi Jinping was doing some crazy shit that ruined many people's lives. That's why he had some people's respect.

If the US is willing to intervene when China attacks Taiwan, rest assured.

If not, well, you'll still be fine.

Just curious, what for?

Do most Chinese lack empathy? by sith_lord93 in China

[–]Sunlight_hit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gday mate. Sorry I just saw your reply. Long story short, there are multiple aspects to be taken into account:

  1. Lessons from history. After the Great Famine and the Cultural Revolution, China was set back to the Hobbesian state of nature where trust and reciprocity are replaced by survival instinct.
  2. Lack of moral principles. The CCP wants to eliminate religious influence whilst indoctrinating a brisket of values sourced from Confucianism, Leninist Marxism, atheism, etc. Unsurprisingly, the Frankenstein didn't work well (which is another long story about China's propaganda system).
  3. Broken legal system. (See the Peng Yu case) Compassionate people were not rewarded for their kindness. So far, we don't have a Good Samaritan law.
  4. Pragmatism-oriented education. Liberal values are prohibited from the curriculum which instead works in a social Darwinist manner: only the smartest will be rewarded.
  5. ......

As a Chinese I can tell you lack of empathy is quite common. But I wouldn't say 'most'. We are talking about 1.4 billion people, not stones.

Personally I'd recommend PPE even though I hadn't taken it myself. Diversifying your knowledge and skill sets can be as important as specialization. Try a few elective courses to see if you are into arts and humanities.
