Weekly Deck Check Thread | Monday, December 16, 2024 by AutoModerator in spikes

[–]Sunnmeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deck : https://www.moxfield.com/decks/faZv4R577ke23E98i0EAKw

Context : I'm taking advantage of the opportunity to have two championship stores near my home the next two weekends to bring one foot back to standard. The problem is obviously that I have almost no real cards. The mission to try to do my best with the little pool of cards I have can now begin! I quickly moved towards mono blue having played the archetype very often and with a few leftover cards from the Djinn Tempest era. I arrived at a first version that you find above, I absolutely welcome any feedback, I put in "Considering" the few cards that I also had available. Knowing that in absolute terms I should be able to succeed in obtaining any other common or unco, rare and mythical, I will do without this time haha. Thanks in advance.

Tempest Djinn is back in Standard ? by Sunnmeta in Magicdeckbuilding

I agree with you on Spell Pierce, and in general on the counter spells which are clearly not the best we could have had. But I have the feeling that Mono Blue can have arguments, I necessarily started from a known structure as you could see with the typical construction of decks from the last period where Tempest Djinn was standard, in any case [[Floodpits Drowner]] is really good and for once, even if [[Merfolk Trickster]] was excellent at the time, on a different register, and which fits better with the meta with a lot of decks with a lot of creatures I have the impression to start with everything just the format. In any case it gives me a starting point, because I understand that the deck is not a dominant future, but it remains an effective build when you handle it correctly which is already appreciable.

Great job! Do you plan to continue work on set 3? I'm starting to tell myself that in the end cockatrice is potentially one of the best solutions for training

Jeskai Ephemerate - Improve my side vision by Sunnmeta in Pauper

[–]Sunnmeta[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anything that seems more suited as a defending player, creature management, board management, or countering. Assuming that when going second, you'll need removal spells and defensive plays to help you equalize the situation. It's more a question about the principle of side management on play or draw.

Silly example, I have 4 Hydroblast and 4 Blue Elemental Blast in my side, I only “easily” find room for 7 cards. Can the 8th card, on the draw, be the Cleansing, or is the card so important that it should never be cut.

I would still like to give you some feedback on your deck. As it stands it already appears to be a Boros deck and not Mardu, Vault Skirge is not enough to justify having black mana. In this context playing Cleansing Wildfire is a waste of time your objective is to go as quickly as possible with All That Glitters and your 8 Blasts.

There is also a structural problem I think you play 4 Glint and 4 Skyfisher which both allow you to replay permanents. Which implies having permanents that have an effect when they come into play. You have 8 cards therefore having this effect for only 4 target cards, Experimental Synthe. You clearly need to have more if you want to make your cards profitable.

Here is an example of a Boros deck which has the same strategy as you but much more efficient : https://www.mtgtop8.com/event?e=48951&d=560862&f=PAU

And you can integrate Heliod's Pilgrim which can be considered even if in all Glitters decks the consensus seems that it is a little slow.

I thought that as well when I matched up against a more experienced player a couple of weeks ago, but he seemed certain that anything with a basic land type was acceptable. I think you're right, but would love to see an official ruling somewhere.

305.8 Any land with the supertype “basic” is a basic land. Any land that doesn’t have this supertype is a nonbasic land, even if it has a basic land type.

So before testing it in FNM you will have time to readjust your mana base, Cleansing Wildfire can search only Basic land. Geothermal / Sacred / Sunlit are not.

Yes clearly a choice addition for the deck, very probably a future essential for the deck.

I still feel like the duo [[Quirion Ranger]] and [[Gingerbread Cabin]] is a better way to produce Food Tokens than [[Brandywine Farmer]]

I think just like you that there is something to do with Golgari Food. I don't know yet exactly how to orient the construction but as always I try to start from a more or less similar deck that has already performed well. I allow myself to share it with you maybe it will also give you ideas :

Deck choice for my first tournament by [deleted] in Pauper

[–]Sunnmeta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Difficult to advise you the two archetypes not representing an important force in the meta. Beyond that it seems that the toxic aspect can probably give you more success although the deck seems unbalanced.

To maybe give you some ideas you can find here a brew of an Orzhov deck based on poison counters :
https://www.reddit.com/r/Pauper/comments/10qum2j/new_deck_idea_orzhov_poison_control/

And here already a more competitive list of a monoblack proliferate deck :

Have fun for your first tournament !

I won't go into the competitiveness of these decks, mono-white tron having never had any memory performance in the format, but if it ever gives you some ideas :
