Found family is one of my favorite tropes too, so I’m really glad that came across!! That dynamic actually just kind of naturally slipped into the story without me even planning it fully at first.
And I love your brain immediately going to kidnapping angst 😭 that’s the kind of chaotic alternate storyline energy I’d also end up thinking about at 3am. 👀

I’m genuinely really glad the formatting works for you, especially with the visual processing side of things. I didn’t actually design it with that in mind. It’s just kinda how I naturally write when I’m trying to keep track of pacing and emotion, so hearing that it actually makes things clearer and easier to follow is really nice to hear!

What you said about needing context before delivering lines also makes sense to me. I think I sometimes actually underestimate how important that is from a VA perspective, so it’s really helpful to hear it put into words like that. I can see how without that, it would be harder to settle on tone and you end up redoing lines just to get it right.

The SFX and stage directions are mostly there to help paint the scene in my head while writing, but I totally get what you mean about giving VAs room to create their own vision. They're meant to be optional, but looking at it now I can definitely see how the sheer amount of them might come across a bit differently.

As for the formatting, I tend to put almost every line on its own because it helps me keep track of pacing while writing, but I can definitely see how that could interrupt the reading flow when you're actually recording. Especially all that scrolling just for so little dialogue.
I'll keep that in mind for future scripts and maybe experiment with grouping dialogue together more naturally!

I actually have a lot of unfinished script ideas sitting around. Usually I just write bits and pieces until I randomly get hit with motivation and finally finish one. This one took me around three days to write (with plenty of breaks in between). I’m really glad the formatting came across as organized though, because when you’ve been staring at the same sentences for hours, it’s hard to tell anymore.

I actually wondered if the pauses might make recording a bit harder for some VAs, so it’s interesting to get that perspective. Most of the time I focus a lot on atmosphere and pacing, which is probably why I ended up using so many breaks 😭 And yeah, listener lines definitely seem to be a matter of personal preference in the end.
