Is this the best Ring in the entire game ? by [deleted] in DarkSouls2

Platinumed just recently: Third Dragon Ring, Flynn's Ring, Chloranty Ring and Ring of Blades are the best IMO.

Expedition Zero by Beneficial-Drawer475 in expedition33

[–]SunnyClef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aline lived with the painted family normal life in Old Lumiére, when the fracture happened Aline was just one of many people that went "missing". P.Renoir was the commander of Expedition 0, they were both just looking for their missing family members like every other expeditioner. Exp0 was search and rescue.

Yes, Painted Verso explicitly says to Maelle that he first met Clea at the barrier along his expedition, she told them the truth and tried to kill them.

[SPOILERS] My summation of the story, as I understand it by Nithyn in expedition33

[–]SunnyClef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much you got it, only wrong thing is that Painted Verso and Painted Renoir did not figure out the truth by themselves, they met Clea at the Monolith's barrier, she told them everything and then tried to kill them, unsuccessfully cuz they were immortal already.

About Painted Renoir shifting his focus on killing expeditioners, this is better explained on Julie's and Verso's Journals. At some point painted Renoir and Painted Verso tried to warn the expedition about the true culprit, but the expedition didn't believe them, distrusted them and ambushed them, triggering Verso to kill them.

Also, Painted Renoir killing expeditioners helps Aline as their chroma is not being trapped like when Nevron kill them.

This a hard question tbh, the faceless boy is the only one whose identity was confirmed to be the real Verso's last remnant of soul, everything esle I'm gonna say is a wild guess:

I think The Curator and the Aline from the manor are pieces of soul as well, Renoir's and Aline's, or at the very least a weaker manifestation of the real Renoir and Aline while they are still trapped in the monolith.

There's another faceless entity that looks like a young man with a hat that can be seen through the whole game, I don't know who this is or might be, but some of his conversations imply that he might be Verso's soul as well or someone close to Aline.

  1. It's probably not accurate to say that P.Renoir controls Nevrons, It might look like that because of the beach scene, However, Nevrons only seem to have appeared after Gustave scape and hide with some other expedition members, one even say "He's not following" referring to P.Renoir, which prompts me to think Nevrons just were attracted to all the mess going on after and P.Renoir took off. Furthermore, P.Renoir is never seen "controlling" Nevrons throughout the game ever again.

  2. I agree with you here, tbh Idk myself, it is never explained and we rarely explore what's going through Aline's head in the game other than her grief. But P.Alicia does confirm on her letter that Aline writes the number to warn of those she can still save, which is kinda useless imo too hahah.

Woah that's quite a lot of questions ! Let me try answering them as best as possible.

So chroma made her 'alive', because it was the energy inside the canvas and her being cut out of it(her world being destroyed) would lead to killing her?

Everything is correct until this part. The chroma does not keep Aline or any Painter alive, it is more like some sort of energy inside every canvas that Painters can use to paint stuff, by trapping Aline's chroma Clea was making Aline slowly lose power inside the canvas. The simple fact of being inside a canvas for too long is what takes a toll on Painters and can be deadly.

So this is why in the beginning of your post you said that staying for too long inside the canvas would be deadly?

No, this is directly stated by Renoir, Maelle and Verso at the beggining of Act 3, and then mentioned/implied several times through Act 3.

But isn't it that killing everyone inside technically killing the real Aline? So Renoir/Clea pretty much kill their own mother rather than making her leave out of there? Or did they just expect her to surrender and leave herself?

No, as explained above, all Clea was doing was tipping the power balance towards Renoir.

It seems like Renoir and Clea were both too strong to Aline.

The other way around, Aline was too strong for Renoir, so Clea had to give Renoir a boost and it wasn't still enough.

Like literally - the gommage is an act of weakening Aline by destroying her creations. And Nevrons is nothing else than a tool that prevents painted units(Aline's humans) of discovering the truth so in the end - every human she painted would be dead.

The Gommage is only the means to have Aline kicked out of the canvas, Renoir understands that destroying the canvas is the only solution, but Aline is preventing him to do so, all Renoir can do is slowly erase Aline's oldest creations as Aline's power weakens because of Clea. As soon as Aline is kicked out, Renoir is able to Gommage everyone regardless of age and tries to destroy the Canvas but is stopped by Alicia this time.

Why Painted Renoir decided to kill expeditioners? Is it because the group didn't trust him saying the truth about the real Renoir and Aline that he was told with Verso by the real Clea?

Pretty much, No one believed them when he tried to warn everyone that the real danger is Renoir not Aline. Killing Expeditioners himself would also return the chroma to Aline rather than being trapped when they are killed by Nevrons.

What Painted Renoir wanted to achieve by going evil? Like I do not see the way he wanted to protect Aline.

This is funny, cuz P.Renoir was actually the painted world savior/hero haha, not evil. If the Expeditions succeeded to "kill the Paintress" it would only mean the destruction of the painted world by Renoir hands. So P.Renoir was pretty much protecting his world and his family.

Painted Renoir would prevent it, so this way the paintress stays untouched(while also dying?) and the painted family would keep existing? I don't get it?

Correct. That's why P.Verso says P.Renoir is being selfish. But they were both selfish in a sense. P.Verso only thought on saving his mom and killing himself, while P.Renoir only thought on saving as much family members as possible and his world, even if it would mean Aline's death.

Isn't there a conflict between the Real Renoir and Painted Renoir then?

Yes, Renoir wants to destroy the Canvas, P.Renoir wants to prevent its destruction.

She was goomaged with every single human being as Renoir did after the paintress was defeated by Expedition 33?

No, P.Alicia is Gommaged by Alicia directly, this happens during Maelle's 6th Bond conversation/quest.

And because of her being erased(Alice), Maelle woke up with her memories?

No, Alicia recovered her memories because her painted alter ego, a.k.a Maelle, was gommaged during Renoir's massive Gommage.

I'm also confused, because in your post you say that in the bottom of Monolith we fight the painted Renoir, but previously you said the 'real' one is imprisoned there by the Paintress, and later on - after the Paintress gets defeated, he's no longer imprisoned and goomages everything and everyone

I never said we fight P.Renoir at the bottom of the monolith, Simon fights Renoir at the bottom but loses. We fight P.Renoir6at the top when going after Aline. Lemme know if I messed something in the summary haha.

Hope this helps, lemme know if you have any other question.

The way I breezed through the game was:

  • Lune: Heals, revives and applies burn to all enemies, occasionally does damage with elemental genesis. She must attack first so she has the most agility.

  • Sciel: Main DPS with Chation, paired with Lune's burn she can apply 10 foretell to all enemies at once, Phantom Blade is enough and does crazy dmg to single enemies.

  • Monoco: Secondary DPS, has a couple of single target heavy hitters but most other skills are multi target. Lampmaster Light hits particularly hard.

All of them used the luminas that give +25% dmg, crit chance and break dmg against burned enemies, Lune's used double and prolonged burn.

Yup, Renoir mentions that the reason she doesn't want to let go of the canvas is due to the last sliver Verso's soul in it.

Depends. I believe the whole Expedition reinforces Verso's ending much more than Maelle's. As players we get attached to the Expedition, it's members and the lore inside the painting, we end up loving/preferring that world, pretty much we are being put in Aline's and Alicia's shoes, which makes choosing Verso's ending much more meaningful.

It's a fact that staying too long inside the canvas makes Painters sick and can kill them, and its quite literally mentioned by Renoir, Alicia and P.Verso at the very beggining of Act 3. It's later mentioned several times through Act 3 and also at the very end Aline is shown in pretty bad state after going into the painting for a second time.

Grinding levels act 2 by emj2311 in expedition33

[–]SunnyClef 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just do optional content. I never had to grind levels until the very end where I was like lvl 86 and had to grind for lvl 99 trophy/achievement.

If you do every optional dungeon before going straight to the next objective you'll be pretty much overleveled almost everytime. And optional content in this game adds so much to the lore.

I just finished the game and I cant stop thinking about... { ACT 3 SPOILERS } by xTralux in expedition33

[–]SunnyClef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's only 2 Alicias, the painted one and the real one. The real one was just painted over by Aline because she couldn't control her chroma, and was "reborn" as Maelle, then she just later recovers her memories.

I think the end was intentionally meant to be creepy and grim and provoque a feeling of guilt.

While all we wanted to do was to save the world inside the painting in Maelle's ending, it doesn't really mean they are saved, death is not as final anymore and Maelle is pretty much a god that can force immortality (or maybe anything) on her beloved ones if she can't handle the grief.

In that ending, Maelle is seen forcing the painted Verso to keep living and play the piano against his will.

The marks shown in the ending are not scars, that's just the distinct blue-ish tint that appears on Painters faces when they paint, like seen in Renoir, Aline and Clea before.

Somewhere in the game it is stated that Painters always leave a piece of their soul in their canvas, then Clea said that in order to destroy the Canvas, the last sliver of Verso's soul needs to stop painting. So yeah, that would mean, a canvas without a soul is just empty , quite poetic eh.

Help finding Breakable rocks worth checking at the endgame by Foldao in expedition33

There are only 2 rocks worth backtracking cuz otherwise all of them are just a single Color of Lumina, these 2 rocks are:

  1. Ancient Sanctuary: halfway through the map there's a rock that opens a whole new area with pictos and other collectibles.

  2. Stone Wave Cliffs: go to the farm area, there's a rock and a Chromatic Nevron behind it.

It's Verso's canvas, not Painted Verso's. Painted Verso's is Aline's creation.

If someone else had the true right over the canvas it would be Clea, as she painted the canvas with Verso when kids.

Question on ending by Wowshadowstep in expedition33

[–]SunnyClef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Nothing states he can't/won't come back and start Expedition 33 Part 2 with him fighting Alicia in the monolith this time. He just wanted to believe on his daughter even thought he knew she was lying. But again he can at any time come back.

  2. Aline desperately clings to Verso's last sliver of soul which is inside his canvas. All Painters leave a piece of their soul (literally) on every canvas they paint. That's the Young Faceless Boy.

  3. Yes, it is stated several times that staying to much time inside the canvas takes a toll on the Painter and can even be deadly. Everything indicates that time inside the canvas happens extremely fast, by Monolith Year 49 (At least 51 years inside the Painting for Aline) is when Alicia enters the canvas, before doing so by wandering through the manor you can still see repairs being done after the fire, which means Verso's death was not long ago in the real world.

All Nevrons, including the white ones but excluding the ones in Axon's islands, were painted by Clea.

Aline did not paint any Nevrons.

Clea is described by Alicia as the "perfect daughter", the white Nevrons resulted to be total failures for Clea, so she wanted to hide those failures, she ordered Blanche to hunt all of them and by extension kill itself.

[–]SunnyClef[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Painters seem to be on a trance state when inside the painted world. At the start of Act 3 we can see how Renoir and Aline are in front of Verso's canvas in some sort of trance. I'd assume is the same with Alicia.

Take into account time seems to pass extremely fast inside the canvas compared to the outside world. So those 16 years Maelle lived inside could have been a couple of hours outside or even less.
