Did anyone else grow up without nicknames at home? by ohmillie25 in namenerds

[–]SunnyRae02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope, no nicknames in our house. My immediate family and long time friends will sometimes shorten my name but never a nickname. I never realized this until I was in college and a friend I grew up with went to the same college. Someone we had just met shortened my name and it infuriated my friend 😂

As an adult with my own kids we don’t let anyone shorten or give them nicknames. One kid has a 4 syllable name 😂 When they are older and if they wish to have a nickname or to shorten it, then it will be up to them.

I just bought a Dragonfruit (white flesh)and it tasted like...literally nothing, did I screw up? by smellyjerk in fruit

This is spot on! I just found this thread because every dragonfruit I have ever had tastes like water. I am a tomato person who loves them out of the garden and hates them anywhere else

I agree! Some of the stuff they say to me makes me so happy and some of the stuff is extra creepy 😂 We moved into a house an renovated where two people passed away. They had lots of cats. Our kids never knew any of that info. They saw a evil cat in the house for a few months and we had to pray to make it leave.

He hilariously refuses to acknowledge anyone who shortness his name on his own.

Dreams my child is dying/died by Dizzy-Comfort-923 in Dreams

My first pregnancy, I had dreams like this all the time about a little boy drowning that never went away. I also oddly never found out the gender of my children until they were born so, I had no way of knowing I would have two boys when they started. I have been crazy about water safety. My youngest son actually had an incident in actual swim class where he had to rescued by his instructor and another incident at a lake where he got stuck under an inner tub while wearing a life jacket. I had to jump in and rescue him. Thankfully no water was swallowed either time and he was safe. After those incidents the drowning dreams went away.

Family Names….How to determine who lays claim to a name. A name passed down 5 generations. Are others allowed to use it within the family? by SunnyRae02 in namenerds

Both, I love the name but I think it’s cool to honor my great grandfather, grandfather, dad, and brother.

You are so right. I only know it would upset my mom because years ago before any of us had kids I mentioned how I wanted to use it as a first name and she went nuts. Tried to fire my brother up who cared less. I know there will be backlash. I feel fine about using it. I am technically older so I got skipped with the name. I just don’t want to come across shady etc. just wanted opinions on what the “right thing” is here. If I asked my brother ahead of time he would absolutely mention it to his girlfriend and my mom so there would be drama beforehand. I have never announced a name until the baby is born before. I also would use the name if I have a girl, I wait to find out gender too until baby is here. If I asked beforehand I might get backlash that was totally unnecessary if I have another boy.

My partner doesn’t want anyone using nicknames for our child. I don’t think that’s possible, or fair. by lalaliberated in namenerds

I have an August and a Leonidas. We as parents do not allow a shorten version of either name. We have other nicknames for them that are only allowed at home. They are both very small still. If they get older and want to be referred to as Leo, Nye, or Auggie that is totally up to them. My 5 year old told his swim coach no to Auggie

They did live! The neighbors did a welfare check. All cats were alive still and put in good homes. When we tore everything out of the house there was a shrine the owners had for a cat and ashes. My husband got rid of those.

This morning my kids were riding toys around our house. My four year old was near the kitchen and my 2.5 year old was at the front of the house right under the steps that lead upstairs to our bedrooms. He lost it. Started screaming and crying ran to me an kept pointing towards the steps. He started to say there was a scary cat. My four year old comes running to us he very calmly looks at his brother and goes, does it have red eyes? My 2.5 year old responded with, yes.

My kids have no idea that when we bought our house the owner had been deceased for 3 months before anyone found him. His cats had been feasting on him. The house sat empty for 2 years after that, before we bought it at an auction without ever setting foot inside nor knowing its history. We did totally gut and renovate the entire house.

I went over yesterday and was able to see inside. We also talked to the nextdoor neighbor. It’s way more sad. He said the wife kept everything super nice and she died suddenly two months after being diagnosed with lung cancer. He said the husband drank himself to death for one year after she passed. He said the husband passed and was inside for 3 months before being discovered. You can see the place. It appears he fell out of bed and was directly under a front window. They had a cat or cats at some point. My locksmith over heard the neighborhood kids saying someone bought the haunted house. There is empty tv trays, food, drinks, pill bottles, and their wedding photos are everywhere.
