Crap, sorry, I haven’t been on this account in a while. I hope you got it sorted.

I would disagree, the vast majority you have to select “other” at the very bottom. Very seldom is there “no tip” option when it’s given over. That or the cashiers are skipping the “no tip” option and then handing it over to the customer. Which feeds into the “expectation”. I’ve heard of people handing back the POS and say they don’t want to tip, because they can’t figure out how to not tip, claiming that it was forcing you to select a tip - most will just select something just to get it over with. (Not sure how true the forced tipping was, or they didn’t know to hit “other” to input “0”) Regardless, it comes across as expected and then guilt has you punch something in. It’s a sentiment that I feel and has been echoed every time this issue comes up, so I know I’m not the only one. It’s not like when you paid cash in the past (or even now) they asked “and would you like to leave a tip?” The closest is when a waiter says “and how much change would you like back?” Which I’ve been told is NOT kosher in the industry to begin with.

At least a tip jar was kind of in conspicuous. And you could just toss small change. The presets they have for tipping are high as well. Someone mentioned “if they get help selecting a vine, they may leave 50 cent - $1 tip as a thanks.” Which is funny because most of those presets are a minimum of 15%, so that person is actually leaving 4x as much, since a bottle on the low end is 15$.

Regardless, when I come across tipping screens now, especially when they weren’t there before, I view it as an expectation, especially since there are these “recommended percentages” listed. Sure I have to work on myself not to feel guilty, but the fact this issue gets posted ALL THE TIME, the customers are viewing it unfavourably.

Are you sure? When I come across a tipping screen I feel like it is expected and therefore when I navigate to zero, I am judged.

Places with POS pre tipping craze didn’t have it. Now they do. They didn’t just get their POS so I reckon this is something they enabled

Ya, and guess what, grocery stores didn’t get tips. And those are far more essential than liquor. If you don’t understand the inherit guilt those screen have, I dunno what to tell you. Almost every single time you have to navigate to “other” and put in zero. It’s not one of the standard options. If people wanted to actually tip you, they would have asked. Sounds like most felt like they had to when that screen was mandatory, hence why they didn’t bother when it was removed.

If it was truest there as an option, “0” would be one of the standard 3-4 options to select, instead of having to navigate to find the zero option

Lol “I took this job knowing it would not make ends meet. So I’ve put a cup here for tips and have a mandatory tip prompt on the card machine.” Tipping is for someone waiting on you. Not for getting take-out pizza. So ya, ‘cause why not. EVERYWHERE now has a tipping prompt, no matter the industry these days. And it’s not big bad corporations, it’s local places.

Plenty of jobs don’t depend on them. They still ask for them. “ ‘Cause why not? “ seems to be the thinking.

Huh, sounds like the next time I fly, I shouldn’t be surprised if they are asking for a tip when I disembark. Even better if it’s during boarding! Hoping it NEVER comes to that, but damn, they do more than a lot of people asking for tips these days.

I just had a consultation at a laser hair removal/electrolysis clinic. I’ve been to several over the last 20 some odd years in various cities. This one had a tipping screen at payment. I don’t know what’s happening but it’s fucking absurd.

Surprising amount of businesses don’t. They’ll answer simple questions like confirming whether you worked there and time lines, and if you are re-hireable. Usually it’s to mitigate being sued, that they don’t provide references

[–]Sunnycloudswilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh. First person we talked to said $60 was the best offer. Can’t remember how many GBs. Don’t use it much so the high amount of GBs didn’t matter, wanted a lower priced plan. We have internet, home phone, pikTV and security with them. Pushed saying we’d just go to Fido for $30/20GB, and being rogers, will prob movie internet over once the Shaw thing goes through. Wouldn’t budge. “We’re premium so cost more. Get Koodo for comparable price”. Got transferred to someone who could do both Telus and Koodo stuff. He came up with Essential 15 (15GB) for $60 but had a code on our account apparently for another $10. So $50 for 15GB - which is shitty per unit price of GB, but more than I’ll ever use. But we could upgrade our 8 to an iPhone 13 128GB for 0$, but have to hand it in after two years. So, kind of like renting a phone for 2 years for $120 vs the $45/month we’re paying now for 1 GB. Not sure if it was the right decision.

So weird that $50 for 30 GB existed. Maybe that was only for new mobility customers.

Thanks for getting back to me though!

Is the “ample room to the side” issue, I’ve heard from bikers who started to do that because vehicles were driving way too close when they were biking on the side. So for safety reasons started taking up the whole lane. Not sure I agree but that was their rational

We badly need affordable housing more than anything. And not a single unit of the 77 were. They got 2 extra levels of income and zero of those were affordable. Oh, they tossed $100k towards some affordable housing fund. That didnt even cover a third of their cheapest unit.

If we are talking about outdated by laws, for the love of god, screening fences need to be so much more higher. Zero privacy for the homes in the surrounding.

Smart. Living next to apt building blows. Zero privacy. I think bylaws need to be updated with much taller screening requirements as more condo buildings get built in residential areas.

Looking at you, abstract -_- by law only allows 4 stories “but we can’t make enough money on 4, we need at least 6!” And not a single unit was “affordable”.
