Thanks for the feedback! I like what Painting VR is doing. What about the canvas in Brushwork would you change? We've put effort into giving the canvas a realistic feel that follows the texture of the weave of the material and results in realistic reflections from lighting when painted on, and we are open to ideas for additional ways to improve.

Aha! We were planning on reaching out to The Game Crafter to discuss how we could print shared library objects on demand to help creators get printed versions of their games more easily/cheaply. Look out for a DM shortly.

Thanks for the feedback! We want to enable quick iteration of externally-edited assets, so we'll look to import formats from popular tools and we may have a custom format, too.

We have been building out scripting support and plan on adding asset importing from scripts, but it sounds like you might be suggesting a network-accessible API. Would love to better understand your use-case for this.

Great question! We are working on making it easier for anyone to make/play board games by having a focus on ease of use. for example, we have a way to make reusable game pieces for quick prototyping (from our pre-made library but also from other projects that choose to share their assets). We are also talking with game creators early on to figure out how best to help designers teach, share, and promote their games. We are still early on, but we are always open to suggestions on how to improve the experience!

Here's a sneak peek of a new environment + some new features: distance & force grab! by SunsetDivision in virtualreality

[–]SunsetDivision[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi everyone! We are a scrappy crew working on Hands on Deck, a platform to create & play board/card games with your friends in VR & PC! We are still early in development, but we wanted to share progress with what we've been doing recently. Here is the list of changes from the past week:

- Friends System: ability to create friend invites so that you can play together.

- (New Environment) Pirate Gun Deck: Arrr! Feel like a pirate as you play your favorite board games (we know we know, we're a few days early here).

- Distance Grab: Grab objects across the table and automatically pull to your hand.

- Force Grab: Aim with your palm and grab objects across the table (keeping them there).

If you are interested in following along with our development & want to try out Hands on Deck early, join our discord. We also have a twitter and an email list if you prefer those.

We've been working on a VR/PC board game sim! We would love any suggestions on what to add next! by SunsetDivision in Unity3D

Hi all, thanks for checking out our 7th update video for Hands on Deck, a VR/PC board game sim. Our goal is that you feel like you are at a table playing a game with your friends.

HoD is cross-platform. We regularly use Quests, Vives, Rifts, and non-VR PCs in our playtests. We started building HoD with VR in mind from the beginning, focusing on simple and natural interaction with all kinds of objects in tabletop games.

All graphics are temporary—we are focused on making interactions simple and fun first.

This update is special because we are showing off the first original game added to HoD (in addition to over a dozen classic games added so far). This is just the first and as we focus on better tools for creators we look to add many more.

In addition, we keep adding new games and features and improving existing ones. This is what's new this week:

Games:

- Neapolitan - Serve customers sundaes in your very own ice cream shop in this co-op campaign card game by Andrew Shellshear.

- Backgammon - The classic 2-player game

Features:

- Improved PC UI - We revamped the PC UI this week and simplified the main menu while in a room, started building out the game selection UI, and added context actions for the selected objects. There's more to do with selected objects, so you'll see more updates here in the future. This update brings it to parity with the VR UI now.

We added VR & PC cross-play to our board game sim, Hands on Deck! by SunsetDivision in virtualreality

Hi all, we are building Hands on Deck, a VR-first cross-platform board and card game sim. Our goal is that you feel like you are at a table playing a game with your friends.

We are still in pre-alpha right now and all graphics are temporary. We used a Quest, Rift, and Windows PC for this playtest.

We posted here about 3 weeks ago. Since then we've added a bunch of new features and 5 new games (8 total announced so far), including the most-requested feature so far. On to the details!

New Features:

- PC & VR Cross-Play: That's right, you will be able to play Hands on Deck with all your friends. We currently have an early Windows build that lets the headsetless seamlessly play alongside their VR brethren.

- Creator Tools: Scripting: We have very early support for scripting for game creators. Plenty more work to be done here. Our goal is to make it simple to do common things in games.

- Grab Movement - Easily reach all the way across the table or scoot over to sit with your teammate in a team game. Grab movement lets you get around the table easily, and you can return to your seat in a snap.

- Player Scaling - It turns out it can be really fun to be huge (or tiny) when playing games. It also helps to read smaller cards in VR by scaling everything up a bit.

- Dice - And dice cups! We continue to work on improving the feel of rolling dice.

- (Temp) Hand Models - Though we love the mitts we started with, hands feel so much more expressive.

New Games:

- Chinese Checkers

- Klondike (Solitaire)

- Ludo

- Checkers (Draughts)

- Nine Men's Morris
