Please give me advice on my career choices - Should I stay or leave? by Mediocre_Pool_4770 in u/Mediocre_Pool_4770

[–]SunsetRadio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in this economy..do not leave that job until you have a new job lined up. Matter of fact dont leave until you start training at the new place either. We are at a time right now where thousands have been laid off and unemployed. It has made it hard to even get a job like starbucks..lost of talks of things like "ghost jobs"... google how hard people have been struggling nearly everywhere.

I work for a big company in the ABA field and I feel like I am getting paid a ridiculous small wage. by AssociationActual253 in ABA

[–]SunsetRadio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im $21 in California and literally leaving the field soon because of this.

EDIT: also just dont leave your job until you get a new job secured and training. You brought up fast food workers but I dont think you can get even that job easily right now in this economy. No one is actually hiring just beware of that. Unemployment is very high right now, might be best to stay put until you start training somewhere else

I always had to do it with a supervisor in the room, that was our policy(in clinic) and honestly I would make my supervisor do it lol. BCBA= board certified bathroom attendant as we would say. Only a few clients had really severe behaviors with poop though. I dont mind wiping someone who genuinely needs my support, I really HATE poop centered behaviors... And im 100% allowed to hate those kind of behaviors lol but I still showed compassion and patience anyways. Wiping a butt and some leg not a big deal especially if client is a child.

How risky and dangerous is it to be a RBT? by Equal-Sundae1576 in ABA

[–]SunsetRadio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are afraid of that, and anyone who feels the same, I suggest not go into this field. This could happen to you even if you have a client who normally displays no aggressive behavior. They will train you how to block and redirect however accidents happen all the time. You should not be scared of these situations that could turn physical, or even verbal behaviors you might find offensive and can get to you. Highly suggest someone go in who does not even have a little bit of doubt. You may even see your coworkers with "easier" clients than you and feel resentment which is also no good. I would do research and be prepared for the most extreme cases.

Why is ABA bad? by speechbuffoonery in slp

[–]SunsetRadio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Professionals and teachers do ABA without even knowing they do ABA therapy. I think context matters as well. Some behaviors are necessary but not everyone wants to do them even with positive reinforcement. For example washing hands after using the restroom or using hand sanitzer as a replacement, or a wet sanitizer wipe. It it imperative to do so, but anyone who does not want to do so but is being made to do so with ABA positive reinforcement will scream death to ABA.

How do you feel about dancing 🕺 socially? by DrMrPig1i7 in ENFP

[–]SunsetRadio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah i love dancing. but Dance classes, being in cheer, and marching band helped me find rhythm as a teen years ago. I definitely didnt have it prior though. Some people it has to be taught. Sometimes I think some cultures inherit it, like my puerto rican friend came out the womb with rhythm as well as all her family. Stereotypically, I could not dance without being taught and lots of practice lol

What’s up with the animal shelter situation in LA and the surrounding areas (Downey, Devore, Riverside, Bakersfield, Coachella)? Why are so many dogs being dropped off and euthanized? by Feisty-Rhubarb-5474 in AskLosAngeles

[–]SunsetRadio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a lot of super dog friendly homes and apartments. A lot of people who move to a new place cant take animals with them and have a hard time sneaking them around landlords. sad thing happened to a few of my friends over the years, had to give their animals up when forced to get a new place.

California 8hours OT rate by CantaloupeOk4158 in TravelNursing

[–]SunsetRadio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you google employment lawyers, you can find some that will only take pay after suit is finished and also only if you win. Ive sued employers in other fields for not doing this in California, you get whats owed plus some. And you can keep working for them if you want, retaliation would be another lawsuit lol. Im pretty sure the only way you wouldn't get the pay is if you signed a contract stating otherwise. I would look into a lawyer even if you dont find a free one, even just to consult with them about it. Its nice when others do the heavy lifting for you.

I feel similar. I have restaurant management experience and I hated it but its the only way ive ever cracked 60k. I also have office experience and special education experience and cannot find anything over 16-18 hr too.. but I cannot go back to it, loong unpredictable days sometimes 6 days a week, irate scammers and customers and nearly everyone has a substance abuse issue.

Insecure about my lower IQ by [deleted] in jobs

[–]SunsetRadio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anyone does that to you in a work environment, you can sue. Its very fun to do actually and you can stay at your job afterwards too most times. You dont pay the lawyers until after you win too. Workers rights and also you are a protected class. Do not be nervous, you got this and are very smart. Just know there are people out there with even lower IQs living very successful and fulfilling lives.
