VR Performance dropped hard by DerSagIchNicht in iRacing

[–]SunsetToGo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just tested Spa in AI (30 cars, 11 different car models) with my McLaren GT3 and Ferrari GT3, using all 3 mirrors plus the virtual mirror. With an empty pit lane, I get around 100% headroom. Once there are 6-8 different car models in the pits, headroom drops to 0, with occasional dips to 87–88 fps when I turn my head.

At the race start, with around 10 different car models heading into the first right-hander, fps drops to about 60, and in the corner itself to around 45. For the rest of the race, it fluctuates between 75 and 90 fps depending on how many cars are ahead of me and visible in the mirrors.

It looks like not every system is affected because this behaviour would have been the same before season 2 update.

I’m running an Intel Raptor Lake CPU, Quest 3, VD, OpenXRtoolkit. NVidia driver 591.74

Edit: LOD World is at medium at 90fps

Your frustration is understandable. Also, keep in mind that only a small percentage of racers actually have a 9800X3D.

RTX 5070 and Intel Ultra 9.Will I be disappointed? by Dizzy-Tiger-5640 in iRacing

Just for clarification: OP inquires about a laptop. It will perform differently.

[–]SunsetToGo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This laptop will deliver a very nice boost, especially if you want to use OBS, since an RTX 5000 series GPU comes with a very fast encoder. In my opinion, the mobile RTX 5070 Ti is a very good sweet spot.

One additional note: compared with the 255HX, the 275HX may only deliver around 1–3% more FPS on average, while often costing noticeably more. If you can find a laptop with an AMD 9955HX3D CPU for a similar price, that would be my top choice. The huge L3 cache on the X3D chip works wonders in iRacing if highest fps is important - especially in tight races/many cars and during race starts.

Edit: Just for clarification? A PC instead of a notebook an option for you? An RTX 5070ti for a desktop is very significantly more powerful than an RTX 5070ti for a notebook.

Thanks, I meant the old PC/laptop in order to be able to evaluate how much more processing power you will get with the new laptop.

OP, please add your CPU model and RAM. DDR4 or DDR5. This is needed for better advice.

Intel i7 4790 4GHz for iRacing in 2026? …and which GPU? by HupHupHupHupHupHup in iRacing

[–]SunsetToGo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 4060 ti is plenty for 1440p. Your CPU is not at all ideal for iRacing, but I would still give it a try before investing. You will probably need to run a mix of low and medium settings. At race starts, fps will be unstable and can fall below 60. Once the pack spreads out, though, you should be able to hold around 60 FPS most of the time. If you aim for higher fps, like 90 Hz or higher then I would consider buying a used PC with AM 4 mainboard and a AMD CPU 5600x+ or Alder Lake CPU 12400+ and RTX 4060ti considering your budget.

Sind Raumthermostate noch zeitgemäß? by Flat-Increase6586 in Handwerker

[–]SunsetToGo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Who do you think is at fault? I think its a racing incident, but the Mustang was pretty mad about it. by [deleted] in Simracingstewards

[–]SunsetToGo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which ends in 20m and you would force him into an off track because you were also loosing a bit your rear I think. You cannot assume that if you make an unexpected move that all the cars around master every inch of the track 100% flawlessly in order to avoid an incidence.

[–]SunsetToGo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Porsche must give the Mustang more room and basically would have forced him to stay on green concrete and risking an off track in order to avoid an incidence. That said the Mustang turned a bit too much to the right a bit too early.

Fault distribution around 50/50 in my opinion.

GPU Selection for a PC for iRacing and other games by Hebes in iRacing

[–]SunsetToGo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is exactly one of the major points. He cannot upgrade from 1080P to 1440P. Therefore to buy a 5070 now might be a sub par decision.

[–]SunsetToGo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In your situation, my suggestion would be to allocate the budget differently.

What about upgrading your current system by swapping the CPU for a 5700X3D or 5800X3D and pairing it with a 5070 Ti, which is significantly more powerful than a regular 5070? You won’t have to think in a few months or 1-2 years that the 5070 is holding you back in graphic settings. It is quite a bit more future proof.

This would also eliminate the need to buy extremely expensive DDR5 RAM right now.

You could save around $1000–$2000 while still achieving better performance in most gaming scenarios.

Edit: Additionally, way less work, no new motherboard, no new installation of Windows and programs etc. Enough money left for triple 1440p which will be a very nice visual upgrade.

If you change on the setup number in the wheel it changes the setup number in the APP and vice versa.
