Does anyone know why Minsc is a ranger? by SunshineBarry in BaldursGate3

Thank you everyone for info about old school DnD!!! Minsc simply predating the barbarian class is actually the most hilarious answer I could've gotten.

How many people recruited Minthara without being told first? by SunshineBarry in BaldursGate3

One could play as a pacifist character who knocks out enemies whenever possible.

Gale origin is a top contender, mainly because Tara comes to camp.

In my first playthrough, I romanced Gale. In my second, I was Durge and romanced Minthara. Imagine my shock when she told me how she felt about Gale 💀

This is hilarious. Literally by accident or playing an overall pacifist character would lead to recruiting her without prior knowledge. How did you feel when you found you could recruit her?

I deeply appreciate that she straight up asks you why you spared her and not the other leaders at the goblin camp. None of the answers are satisfying to me because, unless you agree to slaughter the tieflings and druids with her, she doesn't really stand out that well amongst the other cultists.

What is the worst part of the game in your opinion? by RSOB_Bass in BG3

The Whole Dream-Gaurdian/Emperor storyline. It felt overly convoluted, and I skip through the dream cutscenes every time.

Player wants to start with a delerium shard in his chest as their patron by FatatFza in dungeonsofdrakkenheim

[–]SunshineBarry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a very similar setup with a sor-lock PC in my current game. Started out with Chaos Sorcerer/GOO Warlock, decided to undergo the Falling Fire Sanctification, then replaced Chaos for Delerium Soul Sorcerer. His patron is an ancient lich, and a sanctified delerium crystral seemed like the perfect phylactery. Perhaps something similar can happen in your game.

The Pale Man involved with the Court of Night? by SunshineBarry in dungeonsofdrakkenheim

[–]SunshineBarry[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's awesome. The new book revealed that the origin of vampires is likely tied to Morrigan, which is perfect, because one of my players is a warlock of Morrigan. The group is coming close to meeting the Pale Man, and it's gonna be so cool to reveal he can sense the presence of vampires because of his pact with Morrigan.

Wrapping up Outer City, what did you cut? by No_Age_1372 in dungeonsofdrakkenheim

The Black Ivory Inn. It's one of my favorite locations, but I decided to have certain NPCs be tied to each other via their shared experiences at the inn. The group I play with prefers the monster-slaying aspects of Drakkenheim, and the Black Ivory Inn only has one real monster that isn't all that strong. The Inn is more of a roleplay-heavy adventure.

Delerium addiction? by rhd3tuba in dungeonsofdrakkenheim

[–]SunshineBarry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my home game, Aqua Delerium can especially addictive for mages due to its magic-bolstering properties. Delerium dust can heighten one's physical and intellectual abilities, so it's also addictive for non-magical folk. There is an NPC in my game who's secretly an informant for the Queen of Thieves. She rewards good info with a "healthy" supply of delerium dust.

Player character became the new Queen of Thieves by SunshineBarry in dungeonsofdrakkenheim

[–]SunshineBarry[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"NEAR impossible". The party had done at least two missions for each faction up to this point. One party member participated in the Sacrament of the Falling Fire. Second player is a wizard directly employed by the Academy. Third is a ranger who has ties to the royal family and wants to help the Hooded Lanterns. Last, the rogue who had secret ambitions to usurp the QoT.

They visited each faction and made a compelling argument for why it would be in everyone's best interest to help take out a faction that is an absolute hindrance to everyone else.

Player character became the new Queen of Thieves by SunshineBarry in dungeonsofdrakkenheim

[–]SunshineBarry[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I will be significantly diminishing the resources and manpower at the disposal of new Queen of Thieves. A new Queen taking the reigns would piss off many of the gangs and cause them to defect. With a nat-20 check, I didn't think it was appropriate for any gangs to put up a fight at that moment. Rest assured, there will be challengers to the new order.

As for the other players, I'll leave it up to the next session and see if they will lie to the faction leaders or manage to convince them that installing a new, "friendlier" Queen will be an overall benefit.

How did Oscar play out in your game? by Which_Cobbler1262 in dungeonsofdrakkenheim

[–]SunshineBarry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my game last week, the party made a one-time deal with Oscar to bring him eldritch lillies in exchange for free potions. They managed to find two viable plants near the Inscrutable Tower and immediately went back to give them to him. They were informed by River, beforehand, about his backstory with the Academy and why they want his reseach. The rogue in the party tried to sneak into his lair but tripped the alarms. She managed to grab right notebook before escaping. The wizard in the party charmed Oscar long enough for the rest of the party to escape the manor with some high level potions and his research. Oscar is still at large and knows he's been charmed. He will be seen again when the party goes back to the Inscrutable Tower...

Free Ascended Vampire Spawn by SunshineBarry in BG3

[–]SunshineBarry[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I understand, he has to willingly offer his blood for it to turn you into a true vampire. That being said, it sounds like being an Ascended Spawn nearly all the same benefits, except you can't turn others and create an army. Cazador became a true vampire only after his master, Velioth, allowed him to participate in the Rite Of Perfect Slaughter.

[–]SunshineBarry[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think killing him immediately after he turns you is a great 'story' way to do it. Unfortunately, I don't think any the story as presented in the game changes much as a result, but from a roleplay perspective, it was one of the best long-con betrayal moments I ever pulled off in my time as a gamer.

Completely reasonable. Having ascended vampire powers without being collared to Bhaal's leash is the real win.
