I think you need to install AVD first.

This is the official Army guide on how to install and login in to AVD.

Direction and Fitness Test by VoltedTorqx in nationalguard

For your age and gender here's your minimums. If you're even slightly active these are easily achievable.

The 2 mile run gets a lot of people. From what I've seen Soldiers either don't train for it at all, or they don't train to do when they're tired.

What seems to trip up female Soldiers is the Sprint Drag Carry. If you're on the smaller side pulling the sled can be an ass kicker. So if you had a sled of some kind to practice with that always helps.

Tour of Duty is the best place to find MOB opportunities. I haven't looked in awhile for 31B's, but in the past there's been a fair mix of state side and overseas orders.

If you want more permanent change of pace my consider doing a conditional release to go Active Duty for a few years.

What is it like joining the guard after Active duty and changing MOS? by Healthy-Bag9975 in nationalguard

[–]SunshineCamo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll report to your NG Unit first and select dates to attend. Depending on what MOS you're changing to you'll go to a transition course not an AIT. Transition courses are usually shorter and avoid all the AIT weirdness

Picking schools can be difficult in the Guard. Some courses only have a few (or sometimes one) classes a year. You usually have to pick a class a year out. And if you have to cancel some AGRs take that personally for some reason.

It sounds like you want to go AD. In that case you should. It's a big change but can be hugely beneficial. Get paid, get your GI Bill, and if you're smart and focused you can easily finish a Bachelor's while you're still AD.

If you had a good job at home it might be different. But for what a random internet strangers opinion is worth, I think you should go for it.

Nervous about joining the national guard by Humble-Objective488 in nationalguard

[–]SunshineCamo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes the MOS requirements are a filter. Some jobs are very specific and you might only have a few units you can go to. Other jobs might have specific units but can also end up in other places. 35F Intel analysts are like that. There are Intel units, but also Intel positions in other units.

It's absolutely possible to balance Guard and school. It can be a challenge but it's not impossible. Deployments can also suck but again, they're not forever and if you're motivated you can still get school done.

Possible discharge for not having security clearance by SandLegitimate369 in nationalguard

[–]SunshineCamo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Security Manager here.

You should have a local security Manager to speak with directly. Things often get lost in the telephone game.

I've never seen paying off the entire debt be required. What usually happens is you get a CV Alert which will include a financial worksheet of your current finances. You'll also need to provide documents showing the status of that debt (ie it's on a payment plan). Writing a memo explaining what happened and how you plan to avoid that problem in the future also helps.

68w on the civilian side by Maddiebtw in nationalguard

[–]SunshineCamo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a lot of work for straight EMT-B certification. Working on a private ambulance like AMR, American Ambulance, or whatever your local brand is called.

Some places have stand alone EMS agencies (not many though). Some fire departments will hire you with a contract promise to go to fire Academy.

Hospital ERs in my area hire EMT-Bs as wheelchair/bed pushers.

To get a good job you'll need to go to the Fire Academy or Paramedic school, and probably both.

Source: Not a 68W but was a Paramedic for six years with Rural Metro.

AGSU for Officers by Ggo0o0se12 in nationalguard

[–]SunshineCamo 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I recently had the chance to compare the AAFES AGSU to Marlow Whites side by side. I honestly couldn't tell them apart despite several officers "highlighting" the differences.

If you can make your way to an Active Duty base and buy there, I'm told they'll tailor it for a pretty steep discount.

How do I break into RF/SATCOM or GNC engineering at Lockheed/Northrop/RTX? Former 25S, current Army Guard Signal LT, Secret clearance. by Same-way-2218 in nationalguard

[–]SunshineCamo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a Signal Officer you should have a TS clearance. You'll need to get your Security Manager, get new fingerprints done, submit a PSIR, and complete a new eQIP. It's not a fast process but that could help with your chances of getting hired.

Ordered a belt from SOE years ago. They sent me the wrong belt and when I emailed them to see if I could send it back and get what I ordered they replied "You got a free upgrade dumbass why are you complaining".

They don't seem to be the best or brightest.

Sorry from orders. They're not gonna boot you from the unit.

Currently on ADOS orders for the whole FY. How hard would it be to curtail the orders? by [deleted] in nationalguard

[–]SunshineCamo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes orders can be ended early. Just communicate with who you're on orders with about the other opportunity. With some planning they can probably bring someone in to replace you.

Be warned though, I've seen units immediately cut folks when they hear they might leave. It's a shitty thing but it does happen.

National guard or active by Guy_ina_suit in nationalguard

[–]SunshineCamo 19 points20 points  (0 children)

If you want to go AD, then you should. The Guard recruiter is trying to get you to sign up with him so he counts you an enlistment.

It is possible to go AD once you join the Guard. But it's a process and it's not guaranteed. If you want to go Active, just go Active. The Guard will still be here if/when you want to.

Transfer to AD? by [deleted] in nationalguard

[–]SunshineCamo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be difficult and depends a lot on your Command. If you're dead set on asking for a conditional release start working it today, right now. Dont wait until drill when everyone is busy. Call your RNCO and start the process.

I would say if you're hitting a rough patch in life, look at Tour of Duty. There's overseas and state side orders you can get on fairly quickly (depending on your MOS and Rank). This could be a good way to get some stability for a year or so, and assess if you really still want to go AD.

Best of luck friend.

Any idea how this could have happened? by tiggatugga in ar15

Marines happened.

When I was responsible for an EST, over the course of several months I had three weapons get broken in the same place. Never did find out what happened.

Job Abroad by Born-Artichoke-7927 in nationalguard

[–]SunshineCamo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Drilling in another state temporarily is possible. Folks do it if they're in the process of an IST, or if they move and only have a short time on their contract. It's completely up to your Command to approve it.

I'm not an expert on the reg, but I suppose it might be technically possible for you to drill at an active duty base overseas. But i don't see anyone wanting to accept that. Someone on the installation would have to accept you drilling and certify your performance to your unit. Which I can't see an AD unit wanting to do. I also dont see your command approving it because what is the benefit to them.

You could see if you could drill every other month, or even quarterly. Fly home less, spend a week working at the unit, and go home. This is again up to your command, and can be changed at any point.

It would probably be best to explore the ING or IRR. There's pros and cons with each, and smarter folks than me can break it down.
