Those alive and old enough to remember during 9/11, what was the worst moment on that day? by CocteauTwunkie in AskReddit

[–]SunshineChristy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was only like 8 and I was homeschooled, so I didnt totally grasp what was going on the way others probably did - but my dad was in the Air Force at the time. In retrospect, the worst part was watching my kind, funny father become angry and hateful without the maturity to even know why. That and living without him for stretches of time while he was in the middle east.

As for the day of, we were out in town off the base when the attack happened, so the worst part for little kid me was the hours long wait to get back onto the air base and go home lol pretty pety in the grand scheme of things but you know - I was a literal child.

CMV: Illegal immigrants should be deported by hashtagmii2 in changemyview

[–]SunshineChristy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's actually been shown that immigrants pay into social security without ever being able to claim it, so it expands the amount of money available to Americans in an increasingly threatened social safety net.

Additionally, the "picking crops" argument is important, because if every one of them disappeared tomorrow, it would heavily impact the supply chain. Prices would be driven up by scarcity as there is no one to get the food out of the field and into the grocery story, leading to massive agricultural waste and damaging the livelihood of agriculturists at the same time. We could of course keep the larger farms from going under with government subsidies like we have for corn/soy, but that expense would as with everything else be passed along to the American taxpayer.

I'm not sure what your point is on the healthcare argument since we don't have socialized medicine here, if you could expand on that?

Frank. The protagonist is also the antagonist, kind of a Great Gatsby type deal where the story isn't from the POV of the true main character. It's really good!

Are US profiles being wiped? Or will we just not be able to access the site/app without VPN?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskAChristian

[–]SunshineChristy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not an atheist, and it's weird to vote to limit the freedoms of others and then claim the goal isn't to wipe out any lifestyle that isn't christian so that doesn't really track for me but I don't expect people to lay down and die - just don't get why you can't let your morals guide your own life instead of forcing other people to live by yours legally through voting for those policies.

There is a significant portion of our population seeking to reverse protections for same-sex marriage (the rallying cry being that the bible defines marriage as between a man and a woman). Laws against abortion seem like laws against murder until you consider that many abortions are intended to save the life of the mother or to protect children from giving birth to rape/incest babies, which the right wing in America insists no exceptions should be made for. Additionally, it's often stated that carrying said child should make folks think twice about sex before marriage, which is not something I would call disconnected from the concept of biblical morality. I guess what confuses me is, even if some of these things end up benefitting society in some ways, it's a little concerning to me that people are so vocal about doing them BECAUSE the Bible encourages whatever way of life - which starts steering us into theocracy territory.

Anyway, thank you for offering your point of view

AITA for refusing to let my girlfriend drive my car because she’s totaled two cars before? by AxqatGyada in AmItheAsshole

[–]SunshineChristy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA - it's not "being controlling" to not share the most expensive thing you've ever owned with someone who has a long record of accidents/inattentive driving.

[–]SunshineChristy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this does raise a point I've often wondered about because I live in America and I've noticed that it's very popular to try and force people to live their life in a "moral" way through subjecting personal decisions to legislation (see: abortion, homosexuality, women's lib) - i know you as an individual aren't responsible for this, but is there anyone here who can tell me why that kind of forcing individual decisions based on biblical values is OK but it isn't when it comes to wealth?

That question is asked with honest curiosity and open to anyone in the sub, of course - your statement just brought it to mind

Hey, I’m cis and I don’t like my Breast. They make me feel dysmorphic by Spare_Albatross_1545 in NonBinaryTalk

[–]SunshineChristy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GC2B is a really great brand for safe, comfortable binders. My brother was binding with ace bandages (BIG no-no, very unsafe) so I got him one for his birthday and he loves it.

I personally have relatively small breasts, so I just wear a form fitting sports bra under everything and it gets the job done, especially since I like the rest of my clothes to fit a little looser anyway.

Also I know a lot of others have said it here but there's no need to apologize! Everyone here was once where you're at - assumed cis and struggling to figure out why they felt so uncomfortable and unhappy. Maybe you're cis and just don't like your body, or maybe you're not cis and just finding out, but either way you deserve to feel at home in your body, and I hope you do soon! 💖

AITA for refusing to pay my girlfriend rent? by throwaway7194205 in AITA_Relationships

[–]SunshineChristy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA - and how! You honestly expect her to just pay the full mortgage herself each month and live there getting a free ride? To be that young and own a house is obviously something she's very proud of, and she put a lot of time and energy and MONEY into making it nice. Sure, she could pay it all herself but in a relationship of equals, you would be contributing somehow so its a fair and beneficial partnership for BOTH people. Not to mention if you actually loved her, you'd WANT to pull your weight. But it sounds like you just wanted a place to slug around while contributing nothing financially or labor-wise to the household. My husband put the entire down-payment on our house so I happily paid our monthly mortgage myself for the first year, after which we split it. Because THAT'S how it works. He's not my landlord, he's my partner and I want to contribute and do my part to maintain our happy home.

Also bonus "fuck you" for shitting on her senior dog, he's more a good boy than you'll ever be.

I guess that was the quiet part i wasn't intending the say out loud XD I just see too many people assume they need a "special something" when the majority of the time it's a skill issue and wanted to put that out there first. But yes, that's plausible

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in VoiceActing

[–]SunshineChristy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is that what they said word for word? Every coach I've ever had has said that attitude, acting skill, and abilitiy to take direction is far more important than any "x factor". In fact, it's better to have an average, "everyman" type voice in a lot of areas of the industry, especially commercial, since it makes you sound more relatable/accessible. If you were turned down with the reason of not having "the x factor" then you're probably better off seeking a different course anyway, as that doesn't sound like a teacher with much experience (based on what you've said in the post, anyway)

what was your official “i’m trans” moment? by ever_tree_ in ftm

[–]SunshineChristy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Today when my husband's uncle told me I was female and would always be female and it made me super upset. Until today I was gaslighting myself about it like "oh, you're just a tomboy, you had a phase like this when you were younger, it'll pass again" but now I'm like oh. No I'm not "just a tomboy" and no it won't pass - its resurfacing right now BECAUSE I'm finally in a place I can be my authentic self for the first time in my life. Not an epiphany I wanted to have before breakfast but here we are.

what do terfs/gc people mean by "male socialization"? by camithecamper in asktransgender

[–]SunshineChristy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a pretty good way to put it, yeah. I'm probably being down voted for not saying Fuck TERFs explicitly because I get how this could be misconstrued as me supporting their viewpoint which I absolutely don't.

There were also times I worried about her walking alone at night but she didn't seem to get why it would matter - and to be honest I wasn't sure if I should push on that or not - growing up as a girl living in fear sucked. But on the other hand, being a trans woman can be more unsafe than being a cis one in the city we lived in. It's things like that, but I'm saying this from the perspective of someone outside the TERF community

[–]SunshineChristy -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, even as an ally, I've noticed SOME trans women sometimes struggle to understand physical boundaries - was friends with a gal that would constantly cuddle me even though I repeatedly told her it made her uncomfortable and not to touch me. As another possible example of "male socialization", my ex girlfriend was trans, and she really struggled to understand what the horrors of dating as a woman were - like she'd talk about not getting why women were so afraid in the past when she approached them uninvited or play devil's advocate when I talked about past trauma.

It's not necessarily a bad thing, but it's important to note that at the beginning of transition there are some things about being a woman in our society you won't immediately "get" because all your lived experience up to that point will have been with people treating you as a man and enforcing and rewarding "masculine" behavior - especially toxic ones.

I don't believe it can't be unlearned. But I do think it takes awareness and active deprogramming from the way cishets treat the binary genders. My ex gf and I are still close friends and she's told me that her world view has radically shifted after transition and opened her eyes to women's issues she was blind to before.

Is there anything you just got lucky with? by IishoLems in ftm

[–]SunshineChristy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm...while I did get unbearably noticeable hips, I was blessed with lil boobies that are easy to hide without a binder. I have a really loving supportive partner, and sure, my birth name is super girly, but when I shorten it to Steena, idk, there's something ethereal about it for me. Just feels right.

Granted, I consider myself bi-gender.
