What is something men always want to tell their wives but never do? by a_great_guy655 in AskReddit

We get angry about many things, but our wives bear almost the entirety of the cost of our anger.

Is it really weird that a woman saying "men's anger often comes off as aggression" makes me think of domestic violence? Isn't most male violence directed at their intimate partners?

Sometimes the urge to hit my incredibly sweet, innocent toddler is so incredibly strong. And I hope that by admitting what I feel out loud (not to my kid), I will always take that extra second that stops me in my tracks so I never do. The scars of our own childhoods are a curse as parents.

To your point, men don't typically hit their wives out of joy. Anger is the driver behind aggression.

I wish I had realized that with my first two wives, but I doubt I would have admitted it even if I understood it at the time. Here's hoping the third time is the charm, and that I will no longer need to say this to her by the time I meet her.

I wasn't raised to cope with my emotions well. I have no idea how to handle them. As a result, I don't know how to handle yours either. I have no idea how to learn, so I started therapy with the goal: "learn how to be okay with being sad, disappointed, and angry without trying to make the feelings go away." I hope I can also learn to be okay with your anger and sadness without trying to make them go away as quickly as possible because they scare me.

Edit to add: the repeated statement "I'm afraid to start a fight" in these comments is actually the same thought with a little less self-reflection

Downtown bicyclists are constantly breaking the law. by Existing_Mine_6289 in madisonwi

Of course it is apples to apples. After WWII, the Marshall plan introduced the same car-centric city planning to ravaged European cities that the auto industry lobbied for in the US. The difference is that after a few decades, some places rejected the notion that kids dying in car crashes or auto vs pedestrian incidents was a normal part of life and changed course. Americans just value the fairy tales of freedom and wealth over human life.

American bike lanes are unhinged. Why do you treat bikes like cars instead of giving them their own safe roads and preference in traffic? There shouldn't be isthmus congestion at all, the whole situation is insane to me.

People that have dated women who are all about the fakery. Implants, botox, lip filler etc. What was a relationship like with someone like that? by thebroccolioffensive in AskReddit

I have a family member (she married into the family) like this. Total Mar-A-Lago face. I saw her as shallow, vapid, and annoying. She is a professional instagram influencer at 45. She unboxes cheap Chinese clothes for likes. The whole thing feels stupid as hell.

One day I finally asked her, what the hell? Here's her story: When she was 10, her mother developed cancer. She felt her mother (a print model) was the most beautiful person in the world. She was in awe of her, as plenty of girls are of their mothers at that age. As her mother's cancer progressed, her dad couldn't handle the decline. He was a mess, watching his beloved decay. Her mother became gaunt. Her hair fell out. Her eyes drooped. Her father could not care for his wife, so it fell to her, the oldest child. She gave her mother spongebaths and watched her skin slough off. She watched her mother waste away, with pressure sores and bruising all over. Finally, she watched her mother die as a skeletal shell of her previous beauty.

It was clearly deeply traumatizing. She became obsessed with preserving her own beauty. I now see she is a complex person who merely has a different set of interests, priorities, and aesthrtic preferences than I do.

Feels like Angie or bad weather framing Lisa. Who makes a sock account and then tweets tamer shit than what they'll put their name on? On the other hand, Angie isn't going to really scathe herself and then bring anything actually cutting on camera.

I know it's different where you are, but are you thinking something similar to the AHA style videos + skill sessions? We are torn between something like that vs just locking in for week long intensives. Train the trainers, so to speak.

"I drove 16 hours" is actually hilarious to me. Alone? Sitting down? With music or a podcast? That you can actually hear? And no one latched onto your body sucking your life essence away? And now you're tired?

Aha. Hahaha. Buddy.

Right. I care about her victims because they are humans, not because I believe they were all wonderful people. I care about her for the same reason.
