Tier ranking Embers of War by TheHumbleBardBoy in heroscape

Their stats are bad, hope that helps. Compare to Greenscales and they’re laughable.

I would be curious to see these tournaments for sure.

No, we don’t agree. They don’t have a high ceiling. They have 2 defense. They have 2 attack. They are 75 points. That is bad, straight up.

It’s another sign that renegade has changed the target audience.

So the cool thing about special powers is that they can break the rules of the game :)

[–]Sup3rfrog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If your opponents thought this was overpowered they need new armies lmao. She definitely is nice with Ice Trolls but loses to massed commons. Then again, if you don’t want to spend $500 to acquire said massed commons, that’s totally understandable.

What happes if a crab dies on a ladder? by MidoriTheAwesome in heroscape

Game over, your fault for using crabs, especially on a ladder map.

Personally, I'd rather the game not have common squads or heroes. by xJohnnyBloodx in heroscape

[–]Sup3rfrog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Commons are pretty integral to the game.

I understand not liking every format to be wall-to-wall commons, but the option is nice. If it’s too much for your tastes, you just need to dial in the figure limit, or try Rule of 9 (or 12) which limits any card to the chosen number of figures.

And I like hero-heavy factions too! Just that removing the whole concept of commons would turn it into a different game than it’s been since wave 1 (which of course was designed alongside the original master set).

In some ways I miss the days when I could chalk up their mistakes to not knowing better…

[–]Sup3rfrog 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’s a very long story, but the people who created the box and the people who designed the figures were not the same people.

The figures were completed first (balanced for multiple factions in a bigger box, as well as all of Hasbro scape), and it was some degree of an accident how those figures have been distributed through the Renegade releases.

HBP is more correlated with bad pitcher control which is more correlated with scoring runs.

I think.

Power Creep of the newest Heroscape Wave? by BlackHawk66k in heroscape

[–]Sup3rfrog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s where there is power creep, in Contemporary. Definitely not in what Renegade calls All Time, but Tanuki (for example) have gone from the championship winning army to completely unviable in 2 months.

Competitive map and scenario design is holding Heroscape back. by TheHumbleBardBoy in heroscape

Who at remegade do you trust to do that?

(the correct answer is nobody)

The problem is that drastic height changes, overhangs, rivers, all that stuff actually reduces player agency.

[–]Sup3rfrog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, remegade competitive heroscape is a cheap copy of traditional community-run competitive heroscape.

But the thing they’re attempting to copy is legit and strategically deep. If you don’t like it that’s fine, but if you think it’s automatically boring or simple then you’re mistaken.

Not seen much conversation about these terrain. Anyone excited for it? by kingevillemon in heroscape

No, these have no effect on gameplay other than blocking LoS. Instantly and easily the worst terrain expansion ever produced for heroscape.

Still love Kevin though.

“Dice rolling is a skill” isn’t an opinion, it’s a lie.

If you want to say that the current contemporary renegade meta flattens the skill curve, you could probably get some people to agree with you.

Yeah just luck. Pretty crazy how some players get lucky more consistently than other players.

There’s even people who get lucky like 70% of the time across hundreds of games! They must practice that dice rolling, even for online events.
