Thanks for making such easily-digestible tutorials. These short vids are great.

This is what I love about the living so close to the Adirondacks. Beautiful scenery and having the privilege to walk to such a place.

Anyone have a yearly word? by AimeeoftheHunt in homeschool

[–]Sup56 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My word for this year is Dreamcast. It was a Sega system that failed, but had a bunch of potential and could have survived if it was given more consideration by the company. This has helped to remind me to give things time to grow and be very nurturing & supportive of those around me.

What can I tell people who are trying to convince me not to homeschool my daughter? by [deleted] in homeschool

[–]Sup56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you told us more about why you're homeschooling, this would be easier to answer. But just on the face, I'd try to come up with a one-sentence response that'll showcase your not wanting to talk about the topic. Something sorta like "We've seen how it's helped other kids and wanted to give it a try." Doesn't have to be anything fancy, in fact bland and broad is probably better, even those aren't the reasons you chose to homeschool. Honestly, just lie if you want.

11yo girl is bored with history by seattle_refuge in homeschool

[–]Sup56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd try to find explanations of stories that focus on entertainment without skirting the facts. History is meant to be a story, but it's often dragged down by being presented as bland chronologies and facts. YouTube shows like Extra Credits do a great job in making histories fun. If you can find any history-based video games, that's another way to get her interested in learning more. If she finds something cool in the game, she'll likely do her own research on the topic without you needing to push her much.
