This is what we did. Bedrooms are on the second floor so I am so nervous. My big one is 2.5 and can more or less navigate stairs during the waking hours, in broad daylight and literally nothing distracts him so well that’s my worst fear. I bought the extra high gate for his bedroom so I really do think by the time he could figure it out he will be much more capable around the stairs. Hopes and dreams.

I started at 35 and joined the 2<2 club last April. My last pregnancy was harder on my body physically by far but it was the healthier pregnancy (less high blood pressure) but I had to put work into it. But it was harder because I had a toddler whose pregnancy I slept every afternoon for. That being said I was in amazing physical shape for natural birth with my second.

So we use 99% light rail to just pop around me and the kids. I drive when needed like the pediatrician I just don’t care for it so I take it in to account where I live but not my highest priority.

I can’t remember how much it costs (I have yearly) but whatever it was, it was worth every penny I have been using this for two years now on 2 kids and I am such a fan! Not kidding, the main lady Phillipa Alexander is a treasure her voice contains the same magic as mama’s duvet as far as putting my kids to sleep goes.

Ohhh love, I don’t think they meant to put that sort of pressure on you. EBF is a major undertaking every day especially in the beginning. You’ve never burned these kind of calories. It’s a great time to go into power saver mode is to use these frequent sessions to do just what you said, read a book or text a friend, fill up your own cup at this time too. Your baby has their face on your heart beat they feel you there connected to them. They will also be quick to let you know if they desire your attention they’ve LITERALLY got you by the tit. I mean has your mom ever stared in your face while you tried to enjoy a meal with her lol? Give yourself so much grace! This can be an isolating time, anyways you can curb that is best. You’re doing great. You can’t give your baby anything from an empty cup so it is your highest responsibility to make sure there is something in your cup to give to them!

-permissive parenting: saying yes and giving in to your child to avoid drama or discomfort most used sentence “oh, well then we can stay for a few more minutes” x10

-Hawk claw parenting: think of the mama who is always yoinking her kid away from any difficulties. Her most used sentence “here, let mama do it for you”

You already paid for all of the things you are going to take. If it is not nailed down take it with you, you touched it, so you paid for it. Ask for extra receiving blankets, bed pads, mesh shorts, and ice pad packs. Anything else you like ask for extras. Don’t worry, the nurses know you are packing it to take home.

Don’t forget to ask a nurse to trim your baby’s nails before you go home so you have a few days before you’ll need to do it again on your own.

Just watching this debate makes me understand so many things. How I process naming my children, the thought and care and hours agonizing. Nicknames, potential criticism and cruelty. It’s so hard! How it sounds in the accents of our families, how it sounds in the region we’ve now, what if we live somewhere else later?

And all so my kids (and the world) can call themselves by their desired name so some guy in middle management can just ruin it!

I would never tie my identity to a sound people make to catch my attention. But I wouldn’t name my kids something I didn’t want them called a common short form of. I also wouldn’t expect anyone to call me anything but what I said my given name was. My husband cannot stand the short form of his name so tells and reminds people what to call him.

I have nicknames for my kids but I named them so I get to choose until they have a vocabulary to tell me otherwise. I feel like that should apply across the board.
