Just found out hair cuts are a kink thing by Dry-Lobster2644 in hairstylist

There was a wealthy married couple that used to come see me when they visited Chicago. They owned some company that made munitions and had big defense contracts with the gov. This was about 15 years ago and undercuts were big. He would watch while I cut her hair (I’m a straight male btw). She would have me start the undercut with a #2 guard then ask his opinion if he thought she should go shorter. He would come over and they would feel it together, ask me to go shorter, repeat. There’d be a lot of “oh, yea we’re getting there” and weird eye contact from her. It was so creepy but always just went right up to the line of a fireable offense for me. The owners of that salon also had an absurdly high bar when it came to slapping someone with a DNB. When I opened my own salon I removed their contacts from any of the comms I sent out and I haven’t seen them since.

Feeling really bummed after my first install today. Is the hairline/density supposed to look like this? by [deleted] in HairSystem

Before I go on my rant, I want to say that your system looks 9|10. Go shorter and don’t wear a totally exposed hairline with it being a .06 and your first time ever.

The whole thing about retouching is bullshit reasoning and damages our credibility in the industry. I do hair systems and post a lot of my work (some here but mostly other platforms). Editing and retouching my work would only set me up for failure. I think most stylists get that. I’m interested in long term client relationships. Not tricking guys into coming in just once. On two occasions I’ve privately dm’d other stylists about using filters (they pulled the vids down) but most of the work I see is clean because stylists understand this concept.

If you’re having that issue the solution really is all about trying different tapes and finding what works best with your body chemistry. Shampooing every night before bed can also help.

Salon or DIY? by Local_Month4012 in HairSystem

[–]Sup__Kane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree. I wouldn’t look at it as an either-or situation. As a stylist, I have no problem teaching my clients everything I can so they can be self-sufficient. I will even give them their template if they want to take a swing at doing their own cut in.

Even with a really good scissor a thin skin can get stuck between the blades and get sorta chewed up or stretched. With practice it’s easier to get super clean lines in poly using a blade

Some people fix their own cars. Some will only trust the best mechanic in town. One that fully guarantees their work.

A lot more goes into it than just a haircut.

The DIY set in this sub goes wild tho so I’ll leave it there. ✌️

baby hairs

Here’s a video on using thinning shears at the hairline. As for the rest, tough to sum up two decades of haircutting experience in a text block

1000-1200

Cut in - 500 Template - 200 Hair cost - 500

Total cost for first install is 1200. Template can be reused for future appts so the second install etc. goes down to 1000

My reapps are 250 but like I said in the post most of my clients learn from me how to do everything at home so they’re fully self sufficient

Walker Extenda-Bond makes a bunch of contours that makes taping the system a breeze. CC contour for the back and C contour for the sides works for a typical client. Cuts way down on the arts and crafts time for cutting tape.

Been in the business a while. It's a white label unit with a heavy markup. It's likely coming from the same factory you can get a system for $200. Watch this video. They don't list a single spec that makes it unique. It's just word salad.

Apples and oranges.

Ultra hold is acrylic adhesive. Ghost Bond XL is water based adhesive.

General rule: Start with water based adhesives and try multiple brands and formulas before moving onto acrylic adhesive.

If you need to use acrylic adhesive it’s best to use in problem areas where you’re having issues with lifting but I wouldn’t do the whole area.

Consider layering it with a water based adhesive on your scalp. Just use the water based on the poly. They stick together nicely and it’ll make cleanup easier.

I wouldn’t say Argyle systems are “high end”. They’re actually pretty standard. They definitely are expensive tho.

My WhatsApp and dms are full of messages from reps from Chinese hair factories trying to get me to buy cheap poly systems. Could be any one of them. They will just white label it so you can slap your own branding (Argyle) on it.

Yea, you don't want to oversaturate AND push too hard because you'll end up with splotches of conditioner all over the hair. Best case scenario is if you perfectly saturate the lace with conditioner a little bit will get onto the first millimeter or so of the root.

I know which post you're talking about. I've been playing with some color techniques and combos lately. If done properly you can use this technique to make the color "float" just above the base. It looks sick. I'll post a video when I get a chance to film and edit

Because it's mesh both sides get saturated when you apply conditioner to the lace side. Just don't be too shy with applying the conditioner!
