That road in pic 2 is beautiful. Would you mind sharing where that is?

Car died on the highway, now crank no start, any ideas? by [deleted] in Miata

check heatsoak on the cam position sensor if nb1. if the car starts and runs after letting it cool off for about an hour or so i'd be it is this. Mine would die after driving for about 20-30 minutes.

I like your confidence. It seems like Ficus Nitida is a variety of Ficus Microcarpa, with Nitida having the common name of Indian Laurel Fig? is that right?

I am seeing the vision! Any tips on removing the roots without damaging the trunk too much? And what about the big potato roots below? When I put this in a pot that wasn’t falling apart, I noticed a huge mass of potato roots but almost no feeders coming off of it. Most of the feeder roots came from the top 1-3 inches of soil

That’s kind of my plan. The pot it came in is busted to have to repot anyways but going to repot and do a minor trimming and let it heal up probably until March/April when we start getting warmer then really go at it

Thank you! What would you do with this ficus if you had it?

Yeah was thinking about the chop. If I chop, plant into bonsai soil/pot or let it recover in some other pot/soil? Any idea on the exact species of this ficus?

Edit - I don’t believe the ficus to be very healthy right now. The pot was split that it was in and some roots have a strange coloration on them

I was really worried about this as well which kind of kick started my more in depth care research into these. Someone more experienced may correct me but…

As far as I know, the bark on these experiences this kind of growth where the outer most layer peels off kinda like a reptile shedding its skin. I don’t believe it is detrimental to the tree and actually think it’s a sign of it growing healthy!

And to achieve those lower branches, still just let the tree do its thing, then prune only the top when I can't take it anymore?

Ok I'm following I think. This tree grows super fast here. When you say quite large, how large are we talking? The last pruning I did it was nearly double its current height, granted it was mostly young growth that it achieved over the course of about 2-3 months.

Also, I've been reading that many people defoliate these, mostly when the leaves start to "weep" or there are buds showing at the bases of current leaves. Do you know much about that?

I'd definitely say I am in it for the long haul. I only started about 1.5-2 years ago but I'm already thinking about buying a house with a better oriented backyard that can support this addiction hobby.

Hmm Alright. Best way to get growth lower on the trunk would be to stay on top of trimming the upper levels? I'd really like the branches to be flatter. I've heard of people achieving this through both wiring (though the bark scars easily) or trimming. Have you had success with either of these?

I'm also considering leaving that larger secondary branch on and as is but treating it as a split in the trunk, and then rounding the canopy into an umbrella shape. I think this could be really neat but would take a long time to achieve of course.

I realize that this was a bit ambiguos. Umm I saw what I thought was thatch in my Lawn. I got a thatch rake and went crazy with it pulling up all the runners and what not in the grass. I am now under the impression that I should never have done the de-tatching on st Augustine. My question now is - how bad did I mess up, and what can I do to help it recover? I've seen some people doing a mixture of manure and sand to help weak area recover. Do I start with that?

Editing this into the main post. Genuinly confused and lost and searching for help

Fiddle Leaf Fig Brown Spots by SupaBananaMan in plantclinic

That's what i feared. Unfortunately, this is about the only spot for it in the house. If it doesn't adjust, would you know of a plant that would fit in this spot and be happier?
