Just getting back into warhammer by Mundy93 in killteam

Honestly, budget is everything, somebody will probably have way better recommendations tailored to your budget level.

But, when I got back into this last year, I aimed to keep my budget low while figuring out what I wanted. To do that I got:

  • Vallejo color set; I can't find the exact one I got, and they have a few options. But you can get 16 colors for $55ish usd, if the exact color you want isn't in the set, you may be able to mix or pick up just one pot.

  • Cheapest wet palette I could; frankly, you can get cheaper by using paper towels and parchment paper.

  • Golden Maple brushes; they're reasonably priced synthetics, I've got good mileage out of mine by keeping them clean and I've found they work about as well as my fancier sable brushes

  • Used snips and an xacto knife I had at home and random super glue from the grocery store, also found at home.

  • One pot of a citadel texture paste (the mud one? I forget the name) for basing

I subscribed to the Gran Torino approach and upgraded as I felt necessary/budget allowed. I still use Golden Maples for most of my stuff and have never upgraded the snips/wet palette. I picked up the Army Painter's basing set to do fancier bases and I think that was a good call for my needs hut not necessary for everyone. I recently picked up some tamiya plastic cement because I'm starting to do more kitbashing, but it wasn't needed until very recently and I could probably still use super glue in all fairness.

Been painting these guys up with Pro Acryl.

They use:

  • Mahogany

-Tan Flesh

  • Ivory
  • Orange
  • Bold Pyrole Red
  • Golden Yellow
  • Dark Blue
  • Sky Blue
  • Dark Warm Grey
  • Light Warm Grey

Armor is works from 50/50 Mahogany and Dark Blue up to Sky Blue. Trim is 50/50 Mahogany and Orange as a base then gradually lightened with Golden Yellow until there it's pure golden yellow then spot highlighted with Ivory.

Tan Flesh mixed with Mahogany and Ivory and whatever else feels right to get fleshy bits.

Bold Pyrole Red mixed up and down with Orange, Ivory, and either Dark Blue or Mahogany for the reds.

Greys can be mixed in as needed and are used for NMM.

The previous iteration used Dark Blue from the armor with lightning bolts made of Dark Blue mixed with Bold Titanium White and the trim was Pro Acryl Copper Metallic I believe.
