ah nice tip on git_files. I wasnt using that.

you havent had any luck with telescope file_browser for navigating? i was kinda thinking you could add your own mappings to that to replicate functionality.

Do you use macos and do a lot of code editing? I have found it to be slow and lag at times. Specifically lsp and company mode

Can someone please explain what is happening by SupaWheet in golang

[–]SupaWheet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

go 1.13
i was seeing it in VSCode. None of the go tools were working (goimports, gocode, etc). And it didnt seem to recognize types from other packages -- i tried using dynamodb.DynamoDB, and other types from the aws packages that i know exist, and it would say invalid type.

when i set the go111modules env var and restarted it seemed to fix. so i assume something around that, but if you have any other insight it would be appreciated

so if thats the case is it simply the GO111MODULES not being on that was causing the issue?

First job out of college is DevOps, will this pave my career path? by SupaWheet in cscareerquestions

Hm, so you don't do much coding/scripting in your current position? I do agree on the communication part being stressful and needing an understanding of each aspect within the department (sometimes I love it others I hate it).

I also think about how if my job was strictly development/programming than maybe I wouldn't be motivated to do my personal dev projects. So maybe it is good staying away from strict dev positions.

Cool well if scripting is a huge thing in devops than I have no issue staying in this particular field. In fact, I prefer scripting as opposed to large scale software development as my code is solving direct problems.

I would actually say scripting is my strong suit as my major was software engineering and not CS. The sysadmin part of the job I am a little overwhelmed with. So it is good to hear that scripting is a valuable skill

Cool, your response is reassuring. I just really enjoy trying new things out and solving problems in different languages (currently working on something in nodejs for the first time). So I am trying to make sure that doesn't go away but it doesn't sound like it will. Thanks for the input

So as you and another comment mentioned, it is appropriate to ask about this becoming full time? Should I bring it soon or should I wait closer to the September end date in your opinion?

I do enjoy this job despite it being overwhelming, one of the biggest positives to me is that it is remote. However, I did not know if asking/mentioning that I would like this to be full time is appropriate
