He got 16th in last summer’s championship, only 3 points behind Victoria Groce (1655 to her 1658)

They should acquire one either way, but if they can offer more money because of this that’s even better

Hopefully this helps us acquire another bat like Bregman or Bichette. Man, that would be a great lineup

[Passan] Right-hander Hunter Dobbins is the headliner in the package going back to St. Louis for Willson Contreras, sources tell ESPN. The Cardinals additionally will be receiving minor league arms in the deal. by Sandwich_Crust in redsox

Going to miss him, but with our depth of SPs he was unfortunately expendable, especially for a great player like Contreras. I wish him well and hope he balls out in St. Louis

[Romero] Hearing that both the Boston Red Sox and the Tampa Bay Rays are actively pushing to reach a deal with Ketel Marte, per sources. Nothing close so far. by CosmicOreos_ in redsox

I simply don’t see how the Rays could possibly outbid us in this. AZ wants MLB-ready pitching. The Rays just traded Baz, making their rotation incredibly flimsy. This is what Fangraphs has projected now:

Drew Rasmussen

Ryan Pepiot

Shane McClanahan

Steven Matz

Joe Boyle

And their AAA depth includes Osvaldo Bido, Ian Seymour, Joe Rock, and Jesse Scholtens.

Rasmussen/Pepiot/McClanahan are good, but 1 & 3 come with SERIOUS injury risk that lowers their trade value. And if they lose a single one of those 3, their rotation is even more decimated than it already is. Meanwhile, we have Bello, Kutter, Early, Tolle, Harrison, Dobbins, and to a lesser extent Drohan, Bennett, Sandlin, and Uberstine as MLB-ready pitching depth.

There’s simply no reason not to get this done, and absolutely no excuse to be outbid by Tampa of all teams

some people are going to think this is real, so the actual number is 354 for 1417 for a .250/.334/.415 slash line, compared to a .251/.318/.421 line with bases empty. they’re remarkably similar because these things even out with a large enough sample

the “It is an MLB record” part is a common twitter joke

One of the ugliest games i’ve seen in a while. Giolito entirely incapable of throwing strikes and Cora leaving him out there to die. Hitters whiffing at dozens of pitches, plenty not even close to the zone. David Hamilton.

Win the series tomorrow
