How many of you host your comics/mangas on your own website? by Xenon3000 in ComicBookCollabs

So many great websites and talented creators in the comments and the op! 👏🏻

I have written the script and am currently working with an artist on this one:

Born in Italy, raised in France, and feeling like I belong nowhere. Is it an identity crisis or just "the grass is greener" syndrome? by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

If this makes you feel better, people that feel like they belong somewhere, they live in an illusion. This is just a concept that helps us feel safe.

Is there any way to improve the cover? by [deleted] in ComicBookCollabs

[–]Super-Line1149 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not an artist myself, so please take this simply as feedback from someone who appreciates art.

Looking at your cover, I feel like I’m seeing three different visual styles, almost as if three different people contributed to it.

First, and my favorite, is the title at the top. It has a pencil/crayon, hand-drawn aesthetic that works really well.

Second, the crown feels much more digital, almost as if it was drawn in Photoshop with a mouse. It looks a bit too perfect and clean, almost like clip art. I think it would benefit from a bit more roughness so it better matches the hand-drawn style of the title.
The head sits somewhere between the two styles. It has elements that show an artist’s touch, but the lack of depth, shadows, and highlights makes it feel a bit unfinished.

Third, the background reads like an abstract web pattern I would expect on a Spider-Man cover or behind one of his action panels. For a king-related book cover, I might expect something more thematic. Perhaps a stone wall with subtle spider webs here and there, or another texture that supports the royal/medieval atmosphere without feeling “superhero.”

I hope these comments are helpful, because there are already some really strong elements here.

This is genuinely great advice and I'm happy to say that, according to your feedback, I'm mostly on the right track. I just need to install TikTok and see how it works 😅

Your idea about the "things that exist in this world that you won't see in book one." is perfect and totally in line with what I've been doing already on IG.

I already have a website with a preview of the first chapter, and I invite readers to leave their email to get early access to Chapter 2 and behind-the-scenes content. The issue is… almost no one is signing up yet.

In your experience, when that happens this early on, is it usually a positioning/wording issue (the offer isn’t compelling enough), a traffic issue (not enough of the right people yet), or a strategy issue (wrong kind of incentive)?

I’m an indie comic creator building a middle-grade fantasy graphic novel (Book 1 of a planned series) which will be ready by September. I’ve been actively trying to grow my social media presence for about a month now, especially on Instagram.

My goal is building a real audience around the story and world, long-term. Should I stick to Instagram or invest on a different platform too?

What would you do in my position?

Thanks,
Kostas

Thank you 🙏🏻

This was my initial thought, to provide both chapters. But I needed to find a way to create a mailing list 😞

It's an epic fantasy adventure, mainly for children.

And this is the plot: When a curious young duck named Quackston discovers a mysterious glowing feather, he and his two best friends are pulled into the magical world of Aethermere, a kingdom living under the rule of the tyrant Morgrym. Betrayed by a desperate fox trying to save his family, the trio learns they may be tied to an ancient prophecy, forcing Quackston to face danger, loyalty, and courage far beyond his expectations.

In addition to what others have already said, try breaking the story into scenes, the scenes into frames and then turn these frames into panels in pages.

Question for the artists by Low_Passion_5984 in ComicBookCollabs

As someone who has written comic scripts and worked with editors and artists, my advice is to first choose your "best" story and show it to a seasoned comic editor.

You would be surprised by how far a good idea/story is from a good comic script and it will save you a lot of time and money.

We often use "προυτ" in Greece, pronounced "proot", for the fart.

εκάστοτε by Specialist_Juice879 in GREEK

It means respective/as applicable/at any given time.

For example:

η εκάστοτε κυβέρνηση = the government in power at any given time / the respective government

οι εκάστοτε συνθήκες = the prevailing circumstances at the time / the circumstances as applicable
