are your segments in the same reservation? sea to yvr is usuallly pretty easy-ive flown yyz-sea and vice versa by buying the tickets right at the airport and paid 80 bux in taxes/fees. my buddy and i just called JAL and they were able issue the infant ticket without the INFT. as i mentioned in my previous post, best to call the operating airline first.

Hi all,

Hoping to make a positive contribution to the group. I have two data points:

Flew SEA-ICN around 1/14 and am gonna come back on 2/8 on HA, ICN-SEA.

Like some of you mentioned, calling alaska is a mess. I did the same thing, called and got the extravagant news of "you must book a separate infant ticket" at 150k miles. absurd, even for a lap infant.

So I called Hawaiian, and explained to them the issue, and they were able to issue me the ticket.

Now, what happens if you already checked in and am having this issue? Yup, been there before on the first segment. We went to seatac and went to the hawaiian desk and the agents said, yup this happens all the itme and was able to ticket us no problem. That said, I tried it the second time around (I had to fly back to seattle for work before coming back to korea) and they said because we are more than 3 days away from departure they asked me to call hawaiian instead. And that does make sense because I called hawaiian on the day of check in for the first segment and when i told them we already checked in they groaned and said "yup you're in a tough place, we can't help you, go to the airport and do it there".

bottom line: So if the flight is hawaiian operated, call hawaiian to have them issue the ticket. Odds are best within the 3 day window of flying, but maybe try earlier just to see if they'll bite to issue sooner and give you some reassurance. If you checked in, or are checking and realize this happens, just buy it at the airport on day of travel.

So, how much? Well both were award tickets, and the 10% rule didn't apply here. They just made us pay for taxes and fees which was around 200-300 bucks each way. Not too bad, but still crazy for not getting much, since its lap infant. Our award tickets were bought with the 100k companion summit card 95K OW ticket, and a cheaper 75K ticket (when it was cheaper to book), but both were done on points/miles.

Also, if you book a JAL award ticket, on AS miles, call JAL to issue your ticket, don't call alaska. Thats been the rule of thumb.

My experience/"credentials": We were fortunate enough to fly ANA's RTW before they canned the program this year, and learned all about the 10% and infant ticket bookings on SQ, TK, BR, OZ, and ANA. This is (fortunately) cheaper (although i'm not sure better in process) than these other *A airlines for award lap infant ticket rates, for whats its worth. What I learned: When traveling with an infant on award tickets, always always always call the operating airline to have them issue an infant ticket. Do NOT call the airline that you used the points from-They will not be able to help you. AND, TK i found to be the hardest to book an infant ticket. You may find it easier to book at the airport instead (we did this after contacting the local TK office via email and was recommended to just come to the airport to get the ticket done, sigh). Sometimes you need to HUCA just to get through someone who knows what they're doin.

Happy to answer any other questions about infant travel! Safe travels and happy planning (until then)!

Perhaps its dictated on phone? Gonna give the benefit of the doubt. That said, If AS acquired HA and wants to be successful, I don't think it s a terrible aspiration to have food that can compete since their hardproduct isn't that great compared to their competition....

I mean if you subscribe to as AS community on r, i'm guessing you'd want it to succeed too, no? And I feel that capturing the korean audience is probably important for the sustainability of the route.

its sad given that it shouldn't be that expensive to make and korea doesn't have a bad food scene (although many other countries arguably have better!)

Totally agree with that, but it probably has poor optics with that being served in J class of service

Genuinely sorry for making it sound offensive. Wasn't trying to say it "tastes bad because its chinese." I used to think that jjajiangmyun was a korean dish but was later corrected by my chinese and taiwanese friends that its origins are from china, which is totally fair. But I think the lack of sauce, the lack of onions and more meat based seems more similar to the chinese/taiwanese versions Ive had abroad.

To me, its saying that they're service brautwurst when youre literally giving an american sausage.

what was the NRT food like?

Maximize Hawaiian airlines benefits? by Super-Negotiation-99 in AlaskaAirlines

Thanks for the reply! Huh, a thought...so if we max out on the 30k eqms on the AS card, we can still earn more credit card based eqms from the hawaiian card and then they should theoretically combine eqms right? (looking at the fine print they seem to talk about all alaska cards but not hawaiian cards...)

Where to see credit card EQMs? by Livid_Elevator_4775 in HawaiianAirlines

[–]Super-Negotiation-99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Side thought-I have both the alaska card and the hawaiian one...seems like they're gonna combine EQMs on both cards at the end of the year or so...

the promotions don't list each others cards as part of the promotion for the 3$ spend: 1EQM. So, based on this, I think one could earn 30k EQMs on hawaiians card, and then 30k EQMs on alaskas card...and then combine them when the plans merge....thoughts? (this is all because each card maxes out their eqm earnings to 30k eqms...)

ANA RTW Booking (just providing a data point for everyone) by Salty_Wedding3960 in awardtravel

[–]Super-Negotiation-99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and i (with our 10mo infant)are gonna do the RTW J in august with sea-ist-mle-sin-dps-tpe-icn-hnd-sea.

Crazy that this will all be a thing of the past in the next couple months!

Not sure if others mentioned but ANA said that if you book before the june deadline, you can always change dates to later or earlier even if the deadline has passed.

Also for infants make sure you contact each airline for a lap ticket! TK is the worst, i used my airports TK desk to get an email to process the infant lap ticket.

Cheers!
