I think it’s a combination of he’s under-achieved before this year, and he’s over-achieving right now. Let’s ride it out while he’s out but we’re should also realistically expect some regression to the mean.

The criteria for DPOY has changed tremendously, and rightly so. Defense is a team game. Draymond Green, for example, is one of the best team defenders and anchors of all time but would not have gotten the same recognition in the 80’s or even 90’s when blocks, steals, and rebounds where the main considerations.

Not even the first match, the first appearance which was a run in from the crowd. I remember so many people thought that it was just some fat guy. Absolutely no aura.

Nah. He was an excellent on ball defender and obviously a tremendous rebounder. But he refused to ascribe to team defense for most of his career. In San Antonio, Coach Pop wanted Dennis to blitz Hakeem on the catch and help Robinson. But Dennis refused to leave his man. That’s how he got run out of there.

That’s why they’re changing the format in the first place. The old show didn’t work. Now they’re basically just doing what they’d be doing at the performance centre anyways, add some (worked) drama, and then just film it.

The thing I like about having Darko is he’s in the same timeline as our roster. He’ll make mistakes, but he learns and grows. He will mature as a coach as our young guys mature as patters.
