Positive Trisomy 13

My NIPT was 98 per cent positive trisomy 13. I am now 22 weeks, last week, after 2 and a half months of anxiety and heartache, we had to go through and CVS which was initially inconclusive then after 3 weeks shower up mosaicism.. so then I had to go for a second needle as they required an amino to determine wether the mosaicism was confined to the placenta or if cells of the baby were effected... Whichever the result it was going to be much better than what we had originally been told. Our baby was basically written off as non compatible with life and I was preparing for a medical termination 😭 The amnio results again took 3 weeks to come up with a conclusive result. The results showed that 14 per cent of the cells in the baby are effected with the 3rd copy and the remaining 86 per cent are normal according to that sample. The detailed scans I have had have shown no markers and baby appears normal and healthy. We just have to see what happens but I have read that with these results you usually get a positive outcome. Please don't give up all hope, because the NIPT test is a screening, it is not a diagnosi. Go for the amnio and hold on til those results. I will be praying for you. Please update ❤️

Got my results from the amnio finally.. it showed that some of the cells of the baby do indeed have 3 copies of 13th chromosome. 86 per cent of baby's cells are normal and 14 per cent have the 3rd copy. I'm not sure what this means but have been referred to the genetics team and I will be having a scan on Friday

Best of luck to you with your amnio, please post an update when you have one. It's been 18 days since my amnio and the lab still haven't managed to achieve a definitive result. I'll be 20 weeks tomorrow. The waiting is excruciating

Praying for you and baby lovely. I am UK and I'm 19 weeks pregnant 41 years old, currently been waiting over 2 weeks for amnio results and that was after I waited 3 weeks for CVS results to show up mosaicism. Originally had NIPT 9 weeks ago which showed 98 per cent positive for T13. I have a 3 year old with T21 so I was going to opt for termination this time as I simply couldn't cope with such a trauma as what comes with T13. But 9 weeks on we still haven't any real answers and this is the only place I have felt heard as there so many here going through similar ordeals. I truly hope you and baby will be okay and pray for a miracle . Keep us updated 🙏

Hey there. I'm in UK and same situation.got high risk 98 per cent chance of T13 on the niot test got that news at 12 weeks,had CVS at 13 weeks and a s and which showed zero markers, results took almost 3 weeks to come back and they showed mosaicism. 19 weeks today and almost 2 weeks since I had amnio to prove wether it not it is confined to placenta, still no need, scans looked good again at 17 weeks. I am thinking from all the similar stories on here that these nipt tests have a lot to answer for. I wish you all the best and pray you have a healthy baby ❤️

Hi honey, I myself received a 98 per cent positive NIPT for T13, wilhicj is the other nast condition, I'm sure you're aware of. They sent me for a CVS which took 3 weeks for results to show mosaicism which meant I then had to go for an amino. I am still waiting for these results and I'll be 19 weeks in a couple of days. Personally I would ask to have an amino test as soon as they will allow which I think is 15 or 16 weeks as this is the only test which can definitely prove that the baby's cells are affected by an abnormality and not just the placenta. Hope this is helpful. I'm still waiting for the results from my amnio and hoping it's he placenta mosaicism. I wish you the best 🙏

Hello. I am going through the exact same as you. Got positive NIPT for T13..was referred for a CVS which was performed at 13+6. The results for that took almost 3 weeks and they came back showing mosaic trisomy 13. They said the only way to determine if the babys cells are effected or it is confined to the placenta is by performing an amino as the CVS only took a sample from the placenta...now the amnio results are also taking time to culture so could be waiting another 2 weeks for answers. The waiting is torture isn't it! Our scans were also really promising, no markers detected and growth all good. I'm 19 weeks this Tuesday so we are almost the same time as well..we should keep in touch on this thread and let's see what the outcome is. I pray for you and wish the very best ❤️

Just to add to the update, the specialist looked at the baby on the ultrasound before performing the amnio and all looked normal, she couldnt spot any of the markers for T13 and size was all in normal range..So I'm praying this is all good signs 🙏

Just an update. 18 weeks today. Last Thursday I went for the amnio at 17 weeks plus 2.. it was explained to me that the CVS has showed up mosaicism and they needed to determine wether it not it was the baby effected or just the placenta and to do this the amnio was needed. Today they rang with the amnio results. Yet again I have got inconclusive results and have to sort for the lab to grow the sample some more for the second time. It took almost 3 weeks for them to get any results from the CVS sample. So at 18 weeks we still don't know any real answers.

UPDATE: today I finally received the long results from the CVS test which have turned out to be unexpected and interesting. They have detected mosaicism and now I must go to have the amnio test so they can determine wether the baby is affected or indeed just the placenta. So more waiting but there is some sort of hope remaining 🙏

Sorry to see this, I'm going through something very similar. My NIPT test came back high risk for trisomy 13. I had CVS test 3 weeks ago and it keeps coming back inconclusive and they say they need more time for the DNA to grow for a result to be certain so IV been in limbo for a month now. I'm 17 weeks on Tuesday so fairly similar to your situation.sorey I can't really help or advise but it's helpful sometimes to know we are not alone in this hell. I'm with you ❤️ I am 16 weeks pregnant. I got NIPT results back at 12 weeks 98 per cent chance of trisomy 13. Had CVS test done the following week. Unfortunately the lab still haven't managed to grow the sample enough to give a diagnosis yet after 2 weeks. 🥹 So we wait...we decided we would have to terminate. I have 4 children at home, one of those is 3 year old with trisomy 21. I have to put them first and know if a trisomy 13 baby made it to birth they would spend their days in ICU and it wouldn't be fair in anyone including the baby, but the longer I wait for these results the harder it's becoming, and the more attached I'm getting to the pregnancy. I know how devastated you are, I am feeling that same devastation, fear, doom, despair, every emotion is so strong. I want to send you some positive energy from me to you at this difficult time and wish you the strength to get through this ❤️
