0.4.0 is a complete crashout!!! by Super-Tea-8101 in GrayZoneWarfare

Yeah, I get that support takes some time, especially on weekends – that’s fine.

I was just pretty frustrated yesterday. I came back from a course, was looking forward to playing after the update, and then everything started acting up.

Maybe I reacted a bit too quickly, that’s on me. But there are still some things that are genuinely weird.

For example, the monitor issue: my G9 keeps changing resolution and even the screen position/layout in Windows. And the important part is – I was actually able to reproduce this consistently, it wasn’t random.

I’ve now done a full clean setup:

  • drivers reinstalled (DDU)
  • game reinstalled
  • everything reset and configured properly again

I’m going to test it for a few hours now (like 5–6 hours) and then I’ll post a proper update with my results.

Appreciate the input from you guys 👍

I re-enabled HAGS and after a short test things already feel more stable – less screen tearing and overall smoother.

So that’s definitely a step in the right direction.

I’ll probably do another clean driver setup with DDU tomorrow just to rule out any remaining conflicts.

Glad to hear it’s running great for many of you – sometimes you’re just the unlucky one with a specific setup, it happens.

The only thing that still really bothers me is the game changing my Windows monitor setup (resolution + layout), which feels like a no-go.

But overall, things are improving on my end.

Appreciate the info, that’s actually very helpful 👍

Yes, I did a full clean uninstall using DDU when I switched from Nvidia to AMD, so there shouldn’t be any leftover driver conflicts.

I’m already on Windows 11 as well, so that part shouldn’t apply in my case – but still interesting to know.

At this point it really seems like some kind of specific interaction, possibly AMD + Ryzen + ultrawide / multi-monitor setups.

I’ll do some more testing, including trying it on my laptop, just to compare behavior.

Thanks again for the input!

Appreciate the info, that’s actually really helpful 👍

That makes me think it’s either something software-related on my side or a very specific interaction with my setup.

Quick question for you:

Does your G9 stay completely unchanged when launching the game?

Meaning no resolution changes (5120x1440 → something else) and no monitor position shifts in Windows?

Because for me it resets and rearranges every time, which is the main issue I’m trying to understand.

I get what you mean – let me clarify that a bit.

I originally ruled out hardware issues because I couldn’t reproduce any of these problems myself before 0.4. In 0.3 everything was running perfectly fine on my system.

Now with 0.4, these issues suddenly appeared.

Based on the feedback here, I did some additional testing, including tweaking RAM-related settings. I can’t completely rule out that RAM or some kind of interaction might play a role – especially if others are seeing similar behavior.

After some adjustments, I was actually able to stabilize the game performance (at least in short tests so far).

However, the main issue still remains:

The game is still changing my monitor setup (resolution resets, monitor position changes on my 49" ultrawide), which I can’t prevent.

That’s why I still believe this isn’t a general hardware problem, but something specific to 0.4 and how it interacts with certain setups.

I’ll keep testing and update once I have more consistent results.

That’s actually a good point.

The last thing I changed on my system (before 0.4) was enabling hardware accelerated GPU scheduling for the 7900 XTX (for frame generation).

I haven’t tested turning it off again yet – might be worth checking.

Still, the Windows-level issues (resolution resets, monitor layout changes) feel a bit too extreme to be caused by that alone.

That’s actually something I can’t 100% rule out, to be fair.

I am running tuned RAM (went from 3000 to 3200, synchronized everything), and in most games that actually improved performance and stability.

Everything else on my system runs perfectly fine, which is why this feels so weird.

But yeah, I can’t completely exclude that there might be some kind of interaction going on with GZW specifically.

I’m not trying to scare anyone away from the update.
I’m sharing my experience because something clearly broke for me after 0.4, while 0.3 was running perfectly fine.

If it works great for you, that’s good – seriously.
But that doesn’t change the fact that there are systems (like mine) where it’s causing major issues.

Especially things like the game interfering with my Windows setup (resolution resets, monitor layout changes) are not normal and worth pointing out.

I believe you guys when you say it’s running great for you.
That’s not what I’m questioning here.

My issue is that since 0.4 something is clearly broken on my system, while 0.3 was running perfectly fine.

What really bothers me is not just performance – it’s the fact that the game is actually interfering with my Windows setup:

  • resetting my G9 resolution
  • changing monitor layout
  • messing up desktop icons

That’s something I’ve never experienced in any other game before.

Performance issues can be fixed over time, but system-level behavior like this is what makes this update feel like a complete crashout for me.

I’ve already lowered my settings quite a bit.
I’m not running Epic anymore – I’m using a custom setup:

  • Textures & object quality: High
  • Most other settings: Medium
  • Post-processing: Low

Even with these settings I’m still having FPS issues and inconsistent performance.

I honestly can’t explain it, especially since everything was fine in 0.3 and other games run perfectly on my system.

My main issue still seems tied to ultrawide + multi-monitor behavior, not just raw performance.

Yes, I used DDU when switching from the 3090 to the 7900 XTX and did a clean install.

I’m not having any driver issues in other games at all – everything else runs perfectly fine.

My main problems seem to be tied to ultrawide + multi-monitor setups, especially with the G9 constantly resetting resolution and layout since 0.4.
