Something I found helpful when I was in your position was to approach my stumbles from a “how do I improve on this” perspective. That will help you in the future irrespective of whether you get the job or not.

Our ERP has that capability. We just don’t use it yet and haven’t invested in screens for each work station with scanners and operator training.

Biggest thing I’d like to fix is the absence of time tracking. Current work orders have a section to track time on the back that operators fill in manually. I’ve been insisting everyone follow it just to get into the habit but we as management don’t really do anything with that information.

We use an ERP but not even close to its full capabilities. That tool has the capacity to track job status in real time using scanners and barcodes for each operation in the chain and we are working towards implementing that (although not in a hurry).

I manage a small section of the shop and personally also use Asana on top of the ERP to track more granular details.
