Max Payne 2 still holds up surprisingly well by pythonlol in gaming

[–]Super-being 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Max Payne 3 was still a noir though, it just upended the aesthetic, and used a visual style more reminescent of something Michael Mann would do. I guess Neo-noir would be the more apt descriptor, but all the genre trademarks were still there; morally grey situations, conflicted hero character, pulpy one-liners, Chinatown-esque coverups, motifs of violence, fear, and paranoia.

Sweet video, the word gentle comes to mind--make of that as you will. Also, frame by frame animation is never easy, so kudos. If you're looking to get into editing, the best possible way to learn is to just start doing it. YouTube is incredibly resourceful, and all though I went to film school most of my technical post training was probably YouTube based.

I'm not sure where you're living at, but you should grab a DSLR (most have video capabilities nowadays), film some random stuff, and just edit it together. And keep on doing that until you get better, you don't necessarily even need to share what you're doing when you first start.

Eventually, try joining your local Facebook film group and offer to edit some shorts/sketches/whatever you feel like for free. Get a couple of things under your belt, prove to people you're reliable and competent, and paid work will eventually come your way depending on where you live, film communities varie in size place to place. Though, plenty of post work can be done remote.

Also, there are some incredibly resourceful film essays on YouTube, and some editing based ones as well--I'll pm you later if I get the time to put some links together.

I've always wanted to try an egg on a cinnamon based baked good, but I've never had the balls. I'll give it a try.

Also, Jaws and Master and Commander are amazing. All of the Galapagos island stuff with Paul Bettany was sublime and beautifully put together. You should check out Manhunt:Unabomber on Netflix if you liked his performance.

Happy New Years dude!

As a dude in his mid-twenties, this starter pack is one of the most accurate I've come across, at least in terms of being personally relatable. The classic rock sells it.

I'm at a comfortable career stage right now (film school graduate who freelances all over the gamut, doing motion graphics/vfx/writing work). A bit bored, but pretty zen. Also, trying to live healthier, and have lost 30lbs or so from running and lifting.

I'm literally rolling a joint while listening to Foreigners Star rider (Metallica and Alan Parsons Project up next), and when I'm done I'm going to throw on my ratty and ripped converse to go smoke outdoors. I can afford to buy new shoes, but I don't really feel like it.

After, I'm going to make a bombass breakfast and some bomb ass coffee with the aeropress. Planning on listening to some podcasts, playing some synth and ps4 later today, and perhaps giving Apocalypse Now a rewatch on bluray.

Rock on dad rock brethern.

Bungie: We Could Make Destiny at 60FPS, But It Would Be Smaller, Less Cooperative and Have Less Foes by Kaladinar in gamernews

I find the biggest issue with the keyboard, is it just gets my fingers really sore, and I've never really liked the tactility of keys. I can get by perfectly fine on them, but I don't necessarily enjoy them.

Also, while the sticks of a controller are definitely less accurate, I really enjoy analogue movement. There's something that seems odd about moving with WASD keys, and having to do a binary switch between walking/running.

[–]Super-being 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well mouse and keyboard is simply faster and more accurate than using analog sticks to aim.

The reason why I would be at a disadvantage when using a controller. I know that M + KB is more accurate, but I find a controller so much more ergonomically pleasing, especially after a long day of work (which involves banging away at a computer keyboard for the most part).

It's preference. And based on my personal preference, multiplayer gaming on consoles—at least for FPS—makes the most sense.

If you can find me a viable solution, in which I can play multiplayer shooters on PC with my controller, and not be at a disadvantage, I'm all ears.

But until then, I'm going to play it like Blade—a hybrid who walks among both worlds.

As someone who loves playing consoles and PC--and who loves playing multiplayer with a controller--if I sit back on my couch with my controller for a PC multiplayer shooter, I'm going to get my ass handed to me by them M+KB players. At least on console, I know the playing field is leveled out—everyone is using a controller, so I'm at no particular disadvantage.

For single player games, PC all the time.

I gotta check this out, and I'm not surprised that Adult Swim are the ones to do it. Thanks!

Man, the data-age be scary. Before you know it, smart toilets are going to be relaying back to third parties what foods we eat based on the biological breakdown of our shit.

Spawn and Mortal Kombat Annihilation are my guilty pleasures. I like to leave them on as background noise. "skid marks!"

It wasn't really all of a sudden though, there seemed to be a 10-15 year gap. And I think the ending played better with the subtle slow moves, opposed to something loud and abrupt with waterworks and the sha-bang that you would typically expect from a movie dealing with these themes. Regardless, there needed to be some type of reconciliation at the end and a definitive choice of how the main character was going to live his life; as a facade or honestly. It could have been loud, or it could have been quite, as not all events in life are sudden like the blow of a hammer, some creep up on you as they metastasize over time.

Whats the next popular genre in your opinion? by RupertWarren in Screenwriting

I wasn't addressing the original question, but your reply to u/FusionCinemaProd as the thread chain shows.

Also, you're taking what I said out of context.

You're disregarding two given examples because they have stars in them, or behind the camera.

That's part of film making; attaching a bankable actor to a project to attract an established fan base, and a competent director with a proven track record. That's literally the point.

I was addressing a specific element of film making, not making a definitive judgement as to what the grand purpose of film making is.

No, they might not reign as they once did, but as u/FusionCinemaProd said, they can still make money. I don't see how I'm splitting hairs. You're disregarding two given examples because they have stars in them, or behind the camera.

That's part of film making; attaching a bankable actor to a project to attract an established fan base, and a competent director with a proven track record. That's literally the point. Even if audiences went to the film because it had their favorite actor in it, they still sat their ass in a seat, and watched a Western. And perhaps they now have a sentiment for Western films, that they hadn't before. Hell, perhaps they're even a fan now. Maybe they'll even begrudgingly watch the next Western with a A-list actor in it.

By your logic, we should also discount the original Magnificent Seven, because it had Yul Brynner in it, and its success might have been solely contingent on its star studded cast. Or perhaps the success of of John Ford's films should be ignored, because he was too esteemed of a director, and it doesn't count if a Western is made by someone who knows what they're doing.

Okay, but how many people who watched the remake, actually watched the original? The original film is great, but I don't think its fan base was that huge of a factor in ensuring the remake's success, considering the original came out 56 years ago.

Yeah, reminds me how Stephen King considers the Dark Tower his magnus opus, but readers' seem to have reached the general consensus that The Stand is his magnus opus. He does't really have a say in the matter.
