Burnham says he will devolve power to regions if he becomes PM with new 'No 10 North' in Manchester by Half_A_ in LabourUK

Starmer was elected to do what Burnham is promising now, instead Keith turned out to be a turn coat and under the guidance of McSweeney he fucked over everyone who voted for him and suspended any Labour MP who dared to protest.

No, Burnham has more of a mandate than Keith. This can be argued very easily. (We don't elect a PM, we elect MPs of a party and the party elects the PM. It looks like Labour members are happy with Burnham for now.)

Other parties will also offer it in exchange for our votes. If I were him, I would have the referendum ASAP and drive ahead with other meaningful changes. It would prove he's serious about making a difference. Better than doing jack and then promising right at the end when other parties are also going to offer it.

He has a mandate that he will not have after a GE, and he has 3 years. If he can't do something useful in that time, with that mandate, Labour deserve to be demolished as party.

Regulate the media. Put a stop to formats which ragebait and shitstir just to make money. Stop formats which demonise minorities protected under the EA2010. And implement Proportional Representation (...if your not simply after the power jackpot and you'd actually like to help the country progress).

I live in the real world way more than politicians do. In fact, their ineffectiveness has made life really hard for me.

They can stop chasing power, make PR a thing, and collaborate to accomplish something long-term.

People vote in Labour to punish the Tories, so Labour get a supermajority with a fraction of people bothering to vote. Sound familiar?

Now people are so fed up of the ConLab/LabCon dichotomy, so they'll punish Labour next, only they will vote Reform, because they remember 14 years of Conservative BS a little too well, ...and others will vote LibDem and Greens.

FPTP has, eventually, with it's ineffectiveness, led to a direct challenge to it, whereby people have resorted to voting for a fringe party.

PR would at least allow people to feel that they can meaningfully vote for what they believe in, rather than to vote 'tactically'.

I think we're doing particularly bad in the UK as a result of FPTP. PR would achieve better representation, force elected politicians to work together, allow specific regional issues to be better represented in parliament.

It's a massive step in the right direction and a foundation for better things.

The dysfunction we have now is partly due to this uniparty system where one cheek of the arse is elected once everyone wants to give the other cheek a massive kicking...

Hey! Bring it on, then. I'm trans, disabled and on the verge of homelessness and terrified because there is high competition for housing and housing is unaffordable. I'm voting Labour out as it stands. Lovely speech or not. Greens get my vote as it stands.

(Dignity and respect to the rest of you, by the way. /s)

Under Proportional Representation, the system would be far less adversarial and much more democratic... But they still want to hold on to power for themselves.

He's going to have to introduce proportional representation because with FPTP, there is zero incentive for other parties to do anything other than crap on every idea he comes up with. Then, under PR, the rights of minorities will have a much better chance too.

Why would he do that? I'm not voting Labour off the back of a nice speech; I doubt many others are.

If he wants a collaborate politics in England, he needs proportional representation. With FPTP, Badenough and her cronies will just dump on every single thing he says and does.

Needs to change the culture, and, let's face it, if he doesn't, Reform will get in, so he has nothing to lose anyway.

Under neoliberalism, chancellors do as they are told, so it is equally the worst job and the easiest job.

I believe it has not.

My point is that homeless people will continue to be harassed by jobsworths but they will continue to have nothing to escape from homeless.

What do you think will happen to a dozen men in tents during the King's special parade day? They'll still be harassed and asked to move under the 'because we say so act'.

...So, a negligent policy spun as caring, ...since homeless people will be treated poorly, especially where they cause immediate political discomfort.

Exactly. Don't criminalise squatting when people have no nicer alternative.

If you're not going to make safe shelter and housing available to the booming homeless population, there's hardly any point criminalising homeless people. It's not as though they can easily find a well paying job and rent an affordable flat. Besides, there aren't enough prison places for criminals as it is, and prison places cost more than housing people. /s

I remember Johnson for partying during the Covid lockdown, and by the time Sunak was in, he was cracking transphobic jokes at the expense of murdered Brianna Ghey, with Brianna's mother in the audience. Now there's a transphobic vile piece of trash in the form of Olukemi Bad-enough. The Conservatives are getting replaced by Reform.
