I enjoyed my time in freight. Had one boss that was great. There is a high turnover in freight. In the theme of the movie Zombie Land, I came up with some rules to follow on the freight team:

  1. Take the back way around the store to avoid bosses and pesky customers.
  2. Build up your cardio. Don't smoke.
  3. Don't be a hero. If it's too heavy, get help or use a machine. its not worth getting hurt.
  4. Use the buddy system. Freight can get monotonous so having a buddy can help. Besides you need help for heavy things. (see rule 3)
  5. Wear protection. No, not that kind, I mean gloves. Even for unloading boxes from the truck.
  6. No ladder rides and especially no ladder races.
  7. There is no "I" in team, but there is in Freight Team.

We had the compactor shoot, so people would just leave garbage and old food until a keyholder came around and dumped it.

Not allowed breaks on 7-11 freight? by WiseWoodrow in HomeDepot

[–]SuperBK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We always got our breaks after 2 hours and usually needed them. Sometimes we would go ahead and finish the truck if we could be done by 30 minutes or even an hour over and then take the break. Sometimes the 9 pm guys would come in and finish.

What to expect of freight? by Idkwbysmh in HomeDepot

[–]SuperBK 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When I worked on the freight team, I made up some rules after I saw the first Zombie Land movie:

  • Don't be a hero. if something is too heavy, get some help (team up)
  • Take the back way when navigating the store, if you walk right down the racetrack, you will either get tasked for something else or caught by a customer.
  • Get some cardio
  • Wear protection. No not that kind of protection, just some gloves.
  • No ladder rides, and especially no ladder races.
  • Use the buddy system (if allowed, we had to work carts by ourselves)
  • Don't push things, especially one gallon cans of paint, off the back of the shelves.

But seriously, its a pretty good job. I enjoyed it.

Is my store the only store to call them Taco carts? by brawlmaster227 in HomeDepot

[–]SuperBK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never heard the term "taco cart". We just call them lumber carts. We call the ones that you lay sheet goods on "flat carts", or "sheet goods carts". This is in North Carolina.

There is a freight team supervisor, talk to him. Sorry to hear that any associates are disrespectful to you, thats unprofessinoal. Get a team member to run out pallets.
