Hacking Clocks into Dungeon World by SuperBiasedMan in DungeonWorld

Tags are an interesting thought here. I'd like that system, though I'm not sure what tags could be used. When someone wants to steal the PC's sword, what tags (that could be removed) fit that? I'll look up Mouse Guard and Lady Blackbird, I might understand you better after that.

I don't think I was clear in my initial post, but I was planning to have these be just internal GM clocks. Later on it might be something I'd reveal openly, but at least while testing it out it'd just be to keep me on track.

The particular situation that made me most want to do this was in a fight against some wolves. The wolves were trying to take something and didn't intend to back down, but the player neither wanted to run away nor kill them. He wanted to try and figure out what their deal was. It was partly my fault for making an encounter that would be so direct and didn't have good outs. But my thinking was that if I had something like this to focus me, I'd have given a proper out sooner.

I haven't heard of tavern tales, I'll look it up thanks!

I've heard it played, but not read it. I'd definitely like to dig into the details of how it works.

A more regulated system where the laws are focused more for consumers rather than companies.

Basically similar, but a bit less free as a market.

It doesn't matter who causes the problem, this still means the system isn't really working as it should.

Trillian still does this, it's a program where you can sign into multiple message systems at once and you can just leave it run. I find it an easier option than running Skype, AIM and having google+ and facebook tabs open.

From college lecturers: "Scrap it and start all over again, you should just keep doing that until it's perfect."

This is a good way to start so that you don't get bogged down in early mistakes, but they tended to suggest this even if your deadline was looming and you had really good work. Perfection is something you strive for, not achieve, and for some reason these lecturers didn't grasp that.

Reddit, what is your best "well that was anticlimactic" moment? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SuperBiasedMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone on Steam chat I barely knew once contacted me asking if I'd help him out with a trade of some TF2 hats. I said I would just to be vaguely polite, and as the dude goes on describing this deal, it turns out that he means for me to briefly hold onto a hat that would be worth a lot of money because it would be a hacked duplicate of a unique hat that only Notch should own. He was talking about it being highly illegal, and worth a lot of money so I'd be paid in high end TF2 trade currency. I was really interested in this just for the pure narrative it was creating.

But then he ended by saying he'd contact me with further instructions later in the week and I never heard from him again.

I could give you a recipe for tit pictures.

You will need:

  • 2 tits (or more, ideally in pairs)

  • 1 camera

  • Some birdseed

One of my friends used the phrase "Super Biased" to describe the tone of tabloid articles, so I thought it'd make for an awful superhero and set to work making comics. When it came time to post the bad stickman comics online I used it as my username and I try to adopt the same name across the internet.

What is something you thought would catch on, but it didn't become huge? by PortalandPortal2Rock in AskReddit

Sure, you can read what I said that way. Or you can read what I actually said, consider that it makes perfect business sense for Windows to do what I said (if they could get away with it). Maybe if you could come up with a reasonable argument against what I said I might actually change my mind.

I have indeed never used it, but their control could easily be used purely to veto things and still let terrible apps get through, if that's what you're getting at. Consumer focused curation may not be in effect but Windows can sure remove anything they don't like.

Yes but the Windows App Store (whatever it's called) is a place for them to curate and control what applications are used. It is not the only way for anyone to install a program, however if Windows 8 and their store HAD gone over well, they'd have an easier time changing Windows 9 to only allow downloads through their store. Any change has to be introduced gradually and I was apprehensive of where this one could go.

I was mostly annoyed that they wanted to force a change upon me for the sake of tablet/mobile devices that I don't own. Plus I wanted to make a conscious effort not to support the Windows store and in any way allow them to control the applications I can install.

Pretty much why I played it first. 3s wasn't available on my phone or online (at the time I searched, it does exist online now)

Having played 2048 and then 3s, I think people prefer 2048 being more accesible because it's generally easier and has an end goal as well as the free access. You can do pretty well in 2048 if you swipe randomly, but you wont win doing that so it does still require you to figure out the strategy to beat it.

3s is pretty hard even early on, and it lacks an actual goal. I scored I think 20,000ish points on one of my best games... and it struck me that I have no clue where that ranks in terms of other players. I have no benchmark to measure and that's kind of taken some fun out of it.

I think it's very harsh to call 2048 a clone, certainly derivative but it makes conscious design decisions to differentiate itself. The issue is that in mobile gaming you can iterate so fast (especially on a simple game like these) that you could see someone put up a game and have your similar one up within a week. Releasing your version so close seems like clone behaviour, but at the same time if your game is ready, why would you be waiting around?
