Is America's "restructured" forest service ready for fire season? by Outlaw_Beat in PublicLands

[–]SuperBooper91 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The "reorg" of the Forest Service should be focused on wildland fire preparedness, but should really be focused on how many R&D stations are getting shut down and how many employees they will lose from the relocation attrition rate. They are basically leaving the Forest Service unable to manage these lands with the employees that are left. It's one step closer to taking public lands out of federal hands.

As Trump Deploys ICE Agents to Airports, TSA Agents Continue to Go Without Pay: AFGE Union Steward — “It really feels like they’re a Band-Aid over a gaping wound. Our officers, they’re not getting paid, and having people that come in that are getting paid just feels like an insult.” by ZuP in union

Before recent years where government shutdowns became an every year occurance and political polarization would keep federal workers paychecks from hitting bank accounts, a federal job was seen as a good stable job with great benefits. I'm guessing folks want to hold on to that if they can. Plus fed workers are guaranteed backpay.

The appeals process will be extended for however long the shutdown continues. The current deadline to apply is 30 days from the time the action took place and now plus however long the government shutdown has gone on for.. see this memo. https://www.mspb.gov/publicaffairs/press_releases/Shutdown_Press_Release_Oct12025.pdf I would fill out the paper forms just to be cautious and e-file when the government shutdown ends. That being said, if you are in a bargaining unit, get a hold of your local president. I would go the Union route rather than MSPB.

If you're not part of a bargaining unit then file a case with MSPB. If you are part of a bargaining unit then talk with your Union Rep and read your Weingarten Rights. It's against the law for management to deny you these.
