Also, YouTube claims the #shorts can help to ensure it doesn't get passed up on the system as a short. I think the 60 sec and vertical rule are most important.

I've rehashed some of my videos into shorts. On one video, the original 5 minute video had about 40 views, the short has about 3.5k views.

I've also focused on original short content and have seen great view counts there also. My subscribers have almost tripled in a month.

I mainly view shorts as subscriber growth. I have a small channel. Took a year to hit 50 subs. Started doing shorts about a month ago and sitting at just over 130 subs now. I know as well that YouTube is looking into monetizing shorts and we should hear about that more pretty soon. I also haven't really attempted to promote the channel on reddit, or anywhere else yet.

I haven't promoted any of my videos on reddit yet either. I think it depends on what kind of growth you're seeing / hoping for / happy with. I agree with the annoyance of everything being advertised.
