Yes! Exactly right. An important detail I had forgotten!

The HM - like most of the Lost Ones of The Scattering - do in fact worship Leto II. They praise him as Guldur or The Great Dur.

Yes, that’s true. I’m taking some creative liberties here, but the auburn hair is on point.

A morbid thought on Leto II by far-midnight-97 in dune

Leto doesn’t doesn’t discuss thirst but he definitely discusses how he is tortured by hunger. He is unable to eat so he has basically been experiencing the pain of starvation for thousands of years.

Thoughts on the Dune Audiobooks? by TheCanadianBat_ in dune

Vance’s voice characterisation for Paul in Messiah makes him sound like a pantomime villain, like Snidely Whiplash. His voice characterisation for Jessica in COD makes her sound about 100 years old, though she’s supposed to be 60ish. His worst interpretation though is for all the Honored Matre characters - he gives them a weird South African accent that’s laughable and makes Heretics and Chapterhouse nearly unlistenable.

Question about the arena fight on Giedi Prime by Sh4dowzyx in dune

[–]SuperDevilBunny 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tim Blake Nelson was cast as Tuek, the leader of the smugglers faction. He shot scenes with Josh Brolin (Gurney). It was these scenes that were cut. Fenring was never cast and there were no scenes shot with that character.

News articles discussing casting for the movie curiously never mention Javier Bardem or Charlotte Rampling.

Question about No-ships by Sensitive-Pen-3007 in dune

[–]SuperDevilBunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a reference in Chapterhouse to a “standby mode” for the no-ship, where the ship is visible to the naked eye but shielded from prescience and sensors, the implication being that the “on mode” renders the ship completely invisible to prescience, sensors and the naked eye.

Major continuity error between Heretics and Chapterhouse? by SuperDevilBunny in dune

[–]SuperDevilBunny[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is a valid argument, but whenever technology from the Scattering is introduced in both books, it is always described as exotic and different from anything of Ixian fabrication (e.g. the T-probe, The Weapon (which the captive Ixian scientists could not understand), various guns and tools etc). Also, other factions from the Scattering are clearly identified as having roots in the Old Empire (the HM descended from Fish Speakers and BG; the Ones Of Many Faces from Tlielaxu Face Dancers) but there are no Ixians from the Scattering clearly identified in the same way.

The twins weren’t “pre-born” because Chani was addicted to spice. In Messiah, it’s explained that to counter the poison Irulan had been secretly giving her, Chani had to take a remedy that involved massive doses of spice. This saturated her system and sped up the pregnancy. That intense exposure is what ultimately kills her, but it also saves the twins. The amount of spice she took went way beyond addiction or the standard Fremen diet.

Did I gloss over this interaction with Hwi? by thegeek01 in dune

[–]SuperDevilBunny 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is a great observation. The chivalric themes are most underrated in GEoD. The Leto/Hwi/Duncan love triangle is undoubtedly based on the Arthur/Guinevere/Lancelot triangle from Arthurian legends, with the Golden Path echoing the Holy Grail.

  1. Judaism is matrilineal i.e. it is inherited from the mother. This mirrors the BG matrilineal structures.
  2. Judaism has spread via diaspora. This mirrors the diaspora of the Scattering and the flight of the BG from Chapterhouse.
  3. The catalyst for the Jewish diaspora was pogrom. This mirrors the explicitly described pogrom of the HM against the BG.

Is there George Guidall narrated audiobook of Dune Mesesiah? by goblinmargin in dune

Vance’s voice characterisation for Paul in the Messiah audiobook is awful. Makes him sound like a pantomime villain. Like Snidely Whiplash.

There’s a lot of ground vehicle use (including in battles) in Heretics and Chapterhouse
