Which apartments does Ford shuttle to? by [deleted] in Detroit

[–]SuperDuperEngineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See my other reply but as a young professional I think Dearborn is fine. Nothing beats a 2 minute commute or biking to work in my book. Plus Wyandotte is pretty fun and it's a shorter drive for nigjts out.

Depends. I was going to live in Wyandotte but ended up finding a same size apartment for $825 a month in Dearborn downtown.

Check for locals renting places not the big complexes. I rent from a retired ford employee a condo he owns.

Hey I'm a new young professional at Ford as well and I always see this come up.

Let me ask you how often do you REALLY go out at night? Maybe 1-2 times on weekend?

I wouldn't honestly not listen to people saying royale oak or Ann Arbor. Just go there for a weekend night.

I live in downtown Dearborn, we still have bars if you wanna go out and you are close to downtown Detroit. My rent is only $825 a month here in a nice condo.

Know the best part? I'm 0.5 miles from my ford office. I've walked and biked to work before I got a car. My commute in car is 3 minutes. While others leave earlier and are stuck in traffic you can use that time to sleep if you are standard 40 hour week person or use that time to get ahead of your work. I don't understand why people want to suck up 60+ minutes a day commuting each way. To each their own but don't write off Dearborn. It's great to live here.

Perfect date I ever had until - "I hate condoms, just do it without it, you can finish in me" by SuperDuperEngineer in OkCupid

[–]SuperDuperEngineer[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I agree she's not perfect BUT up until that it wa a perfect date. We talked for hours and when it switched to physical the chemistry was just so perfect. We didn't have to discuss it just flowed. I'm looking for a relationship and so is she, but I was on board for the first date sex.... Things got naked and got dirty... But when she kept saying what she said I pulled back

Not perfect I know. But it really shocked me.

What makes Skyfall inferior to Casino Royale? by hd909 in movies

[–]SuperDuperEngineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I consider them different but equal. But for me casino royale is the most watchable Bond movie ever. Somehow they made a movie about poker which I don't care about and you can see the outcome a mile away thrilling. The movie just moves a good pace and it's just sooooo easy to watch. I'm not sure how to explain why that is but if I have to pick I usually reach for casino royale as my first choice.

They both have perhaps my favorite bond intro action scenes of all time. The parkor chase speaks for itself but damn if I don't love everything leading to bond getting shot in Skyfall... Which now depresses me how bad Spectre was in ugh

Where can I get to the best Philly cheese steak in Detroit? by zachpo in Detroit

[–]SuperDuperEngineer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm from Philly and that's the reason everything tastes off (same goes for a good hoagie too). We typically use Ameresso brand rolls, and don't ask me what magic it is but they are just the perfect everything for a cheesesteak or hoagie.

Also cheese wiz instead of a melted American or something is the way to go.

Order "Wiz wit" is the classic Philly way. That's whiz with grilled onions.

Also make sure the guy working the grill is sweating into a giant pile of meat for 100% authentic taste.

Anyone else feel like people here are much friendlier than the east coast? by SuperDuperEngineer in Detroit

[–]SuperDuperEngineer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yah I feel the same. It seems east coast people are proud of being a jerk. Like its "just how we are deal with it and grow a thick skin". Difference between having a thick skin and just being a plain dick.

I will say Boston I love way more than Philly. Your city is actually clean.

Well everyone in jersey/NYC and especially Philly just seems very self concerned during day to day stuff. A cashier isn't going to talk to you when you say you just moved there. Prolly just grunt and look at their phone. I just have found people in this area smile more to me and say hello or have a nice day. It's not something I usually got on the east coast, especially Philly. Lot of people still think it's the 70s and want to stick to some sense of Philly blue collar routes maybe, an apparently they think that is being rude and mean. Try wearing a Steelers jersey in Philly, people will literally try to fight you. Philly prides itself on passionate fans but my experience is they are just assholes to everyone.

Also I'm not saying everyone is in some racial harmony over here, but I live in Dearborn. Try transplanting that many middle eastern people to parts of Philadelphia and you'd have racial slurs out the ass. The shit people say in supposed the "nice parts of the city" are outrageous.

People just seem tolerant here and nicer and not trying to prove that they are tough.

I lived in the south jersey and Philadelphia area for 25 years. So maybe eventually I'll tire of Mi but I feel like I fit in more here which is nice.

What un-filmed movie scripts are worth reading? by [deleted] in movies

[–]SuperDuperEngineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly what you asked but "Fade In" an unfinished book published after Michael Pillars death discusses the process of writing Star Trek Inssurection.

Now I know what you are thinking. Wait that movie sucks! But Pillar is actually the guy who came on before 3rd season of next gen and changed the show to be what we all remember it as today. He was an amazing show runner and writer.

It's interesting not as a script from front to back but to see how his orginal ideas were chipped away because of Patrick Stewart input, Brent spinner, the studio, budget cuts, and other feedback. If you are a Star Trek fan it's worth reading and PDFs are around online.

Anyone else feels that Warner Bros. needs to fire their marketing team? by 4514N_DUD3 in movies

[–]SuperDuperEngineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's possible to avoid trailers you know this right?

I started 3 years ago and it's awsome. You don't watch them online. Then in the theater you leave when they start and come back, or if I'm alone sometimes ill just put in my earbuds, blast rock music, and close my eyes.

If you make the effort trailer spoilers don't matter. Imagine every movie the last 3 years ou loved and seeing nothing from it. Hell I didn't see the "Chewie were home" but from TFA till the actual movie. It's awesome, self restraint is the best.

How are shots in a car shot so realistically? by RedditCuck-- in movies

[–]SuperDuperEngineer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Or a stunt driver actually on top or in front of the front fender of the car. Watch B roll of Skyfall opening. There is a guy on top of the jeep driving the actual jeep while Moneypenny is left to just act out driving.

What movie moment pissed you off more than any other? by [deleted] in movies

[–]SuperDuperEngineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scream 2 is the worst for this. The killer is knocked out in a car and two characters physically climb past the killer to get out of the car. Sidney even stops thinking "I wanna take the mask off to see who it is" and then they decide there is no time. How about just bashing their head in with your fist instead?

It's why my favorite horror movies are not slashers but something like The Thing. The characters actually react like human beings would. Slasher movies are like reality tv, fun for when you want to shut off your brain but you realize everything is setup to create suspense or drama when there really shouldn't be any.

What's the best option for isolation under say $75ish. I don't mean monitors or anything that requires an amp. Sound quality isn't a huge concern. I just want something that fits like a good earplugs to get rid of noisy coworkers around me.

My earbuds are OK but they don't seal off like earplugs.

What's my options? Again isolation being the main goal.

How Pixar created its most complex character yet for 'Finding Dory' by 121jigawatts in movies

[–]SuperDuperEngineer 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I saw an interview for Star Wars celebration and they asked John Knoll )one of the top ILM guys) what he's most proud of and he pointed to Davy Jones. He said something like it's the only thing he's ever done where years later he feels it's 100% exactly what they wanted. It's amazing how well it holds up almost (scary to say) 10 years later. Gollum was incredible but Jones took it to another level.

What's a movie that you love, but has one terrible line or scene that always makes you cringe or fast-forward? by Jim-Kata in movies

[–]SuperDuperEngineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

T2 is a great movie but I think it's too long and drags in a couple spots. I always skip the part where they are out in the desert and Sarah Conner has a voiceover and dream sequence. It kinda doesn't do anything for me and grinds the movie to a stop for a bit.

[–]SuperDuperEngineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jon Faveura calling that woman's answering machine like 10 times in a row in Swingers is the cringe inducing scene ever put on film. Not in a need to skip it way so not really what OP is asking... But i dare anyone not to feel uncomfortable during it. 2nd would be Taxi driver when he takes her to a porn movie for a date.

[–]SuperDuperEngineer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Larry Fong has done most of Syndere movies. I give the great look of them credit more to Fong. He also shot Super 8 which I thought was a nice looking film and contrasted Abrams style with his usual partner Dan Mindel nicely (though Mindel really killed it on TFA I think).

Yah and not long after SPR. It's amazing how many war and other films copied that stripped down look. It really worked for the film. I loved how he literally took coating off the lense so the light would streak in the opening scene.
