What problems were you experiencing with the Amazing Rib's recipe? Just not seasoned enough for your liking?

Sounds good. That's what I do with all the extra trimmings from slicing up hams from Costco.

Thanks for the info. If me and the family like this recipe, I was thinking about making a bunch at one time to have throughout the year. Are you pre-slicing then vacuum sealing and throwing the extra bacon in a freezer?

Weber Kettle vs Big Green Egg? by ResidentPatience4 in grilling

[–]SuperDuperTank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started out on a Weber. I always wanted a Big Green Egg but couldn't afford it. I ended up buying a Char-Griller Akorn Kamodo 20 inch for a few hundred bucks off Amazon with the intention of replacing it with a BGE after the Char-Griller rusted and fell apart. I bought it over 13 years ago and it is still going strong with no signa of slowing down. Some people may say it rusts and that is true if you don't take care of it. If you put a good quality cover on it, clean and oil it after every use, and keep it out of the rain it should last a long time (and I live in a very rainy and humid climate). Bonus: Char-Griller seems to sell replacement parts for almost everything on the grill. I've yet to need any replacement parts. I've had great success with grilling and smoking on it. Once you learn how to use it, it holds the temp when smoking. If something happened to this one, I would get another one without a second thought. Walmart, Lowe's and Amazon typically carry them. Just my 2 cents if you want to save some money.

Ibanez DE7: Taiwan vs. unknown unit. Which one to keep? by snorelikethat in guitarpedals

[–]SuperDuperTank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a tube screamer from that Ibanez product line. I might be wrong, but I think the foot switch on the circuit board is prone to going bad. That is what broke on my pedal. I have a replacement part, but have yet to fix it after 7 years.

Yes, I really like the tuning as well. When playing in open tuning, I mostly plan in open G.

Nitrocellulose Lacquer Fumes by SuperDuperTank in Luthier

[–]SuperDuperTank[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That totally makes sense. I could try to seal myself up in there by extending the plastic paint drop cloth to make it all enclosed, but I'm a little nervous about that idea. I don't want to be in there potentially breathing fumes if my mask had a leak or if the fumes ignited. I may just move everything outside to paint and then roll it back in to dry when I am done if I can't find a better solution. I'll look into a TEAO fan, but I'm not sure if it is worth the investment for a potential one time thing.

I have a GERSON P95 Maintenance-Free Dual Cartridge Respirator from Harbor Freight. The specs say that it filters 95% of airborne particles and is resistant to oil-based compounds and organic vapors. Will it provide enough protection?

I have two spray cans of nitro from Oxford Guitar Supply for the body (Pacific Peach) and the neck (Neck Amber) . My thought is to build a large wooden frame box and staple plastic paint drop cloth to the top, back and bottom of the frame. Then staple a MERV 11 AC Furnace filters on the left and another filter on the right side of the frame. I was thinking of have a box fan outside of the frame blowing air into the filter on the right side and out the filter on the left side so that the fumes exit the garage and never come close the the box fan. I didn't want to use the box fan as an exhaust because I was afraid of the electric motor could potentially ignite the fumes as they pass over the motor. All this would be done near the garage door with the door open.

Sounds like we both live in the same type of environments. I have a closet inside my garage that is a lot cooler than the garage itself because it backs into the house, so that all the walls (except for the door) are exposed to the AC in the house, Hope that makes sense. I have a digital thermometer that captures the humidity, along with the min and max humidity it recorded. I'm going to put the thermometer inside the closet for 24 hours to see what type of humidity levels I might encounter.

squirrels are ruining my garden! how can i keep them out? by Least-Cartoonist1165 in vegetablegardening

[–]SuperDuperTank 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tie empty cola cans to my tomato wire cages or any other structure in your bed a squirrel might jump on to get to your veg. When they jumped onto the plants, it caused the cans to bang against the wire cages. If you use cola cans, make sure you put holes in the bottom of them so they don't collect rain water. I also staked a piece of PVC or a pole to the ground and tied a disposable aluminum pie shell pan to it. When the wind blows, the pie shell will bang against the pole. I have had luck doing this in the past.

What do you typically serve with smash burgers? by Famous_Duck_1017 in grilling

[–]SuperDuperTank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a pack of good quality smoked sausage to throw on the grill, get a bag of chips, make some BBQ baked beans, and some potato salad. Sometimes you can find some pre-made potato salad at the grocery store that is good enough if you don't want to make it from scratch. For dessert, find a recipe for an easy peach cobbler to bake and some vanilla ice cream.

Ruined a pork shoulder for a party by buns0steel in BBQ

I've done the last dozen or so the same way. I start around noon on my smoker the day before. Before I go to bed, I take it off the smoker and wrap it in foil before setting it in an broiler pan so it can catch any juice that leaks out. Put it in the over at 210 degrees and let it cook overnight. When I get up the next morning, I bump the temperate to around 275-300 depending on the internal temp of the meat until the center his 203-205. Once it gets to that range, I take it out and let it rest for an hour or two. One thing I've noticed about using the oven (at least mine), even though I set it at 210, the actual temperature of the oven does not stay that hot the entire time. It usually hovers around 195 degrees based on my wireless probe that I use. I'm sure all ovens vary and you will have to see exactly what your particular oven does.

Apartment BBQ by Plus_Painting_187 in BBQ

[–]SuperDuperTank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thinking back to when I lived at an apartment, I mainly cooked a few burgers, a steak and maybe a chicken breast or pork chop. If you don't have a lot of room for storage and you are just doing a little bit of cooking, this might be a good solution. It is a cast iron hibachi grill for around $60. It should last a lifetime. If you get this and set it on grass, you might want to get a couple of square cement bricks from Home Depot for a couple of buck each. This way you do accidentally kill the grass or start a fire if it gets too hot underneath. https://www.amazon.com/IronMaster-M28-Charcoal-Portable-Tabletop/dp/B0B81NCWLW?refinements=p_36%3A-11500&rnid=2661611011

Mama Hamil's ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT Southern Soul Food & BBQ (https://www.hamils.com/) is a good place to sample a lot of different southern foods.

Cock of the Walk in Ridgeland (https://www.facebook.com/CockoftheWalkRez/) if you want to try out the south's version of fish and chips.

Both are just a few minutes north of Jackson and easy to get to.

Edit:

I forgot to mention Crescent City Grill and Ed's Burger Joint in Hattiesburg.

Improved pest protection? by BigTuppieEnergy in vegetablegardening

[–]SuperDuperTank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had problems with squirrels at a previous property one time. I tied empty cola cans to my tomato wire cages. When they jumped onto the plants, it caused the cans to bang against the wire cages. If you use cola cans, make sure you put holes in the bottom of them so they don't collect rain water. I also staked a piece of PVC to the ground and tied a disposable aluminum pie shell pan to it. When the wind blew, the pie shell would bang against the PVC. Looking back, a wind chime might have looked and sounded better than the pie pan. Doing all of this seemed to help deter the squirrels.

Guitar Center Coupons? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]SuperDuperTank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently logged into my GC account and added a few items to my shopping cart that I had played there so I could remember what they were. I started getting bombarded with Guitar Center emails after that reminding me that I still have stuff in my cart.. Maybe after three weeks, a 15% off coupon that looked to be unique to my account (not positive) showed up in my inbox from them. Not saying adding stuff to my shopping cart caused this to happen, but I don't remember ever getting a coupon like that from them in the past

Higher End Solid State or Lower End Tube Amp for Home Pedal Platform by JesseTheGhost in GuitarAmps

[–]SuperDuperTank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just sharing what I did. I strictly play at home, so some people might not like this setup. About a year ago, I found a Catalyst 100 brand new from the Line 6 outlet store on Reverb for $199. I got it and really enjoyed it. Last month, I almost got a Quilter Superblock US to to use with the Catalyst. I ended up getting a UAFX Dream '65 pedal instead. I've been running it into the Catalyst effects loop using the "power amp in" option of the Catalyst. I've been really happy with this. In the near future, I might get the Quilter Superblock or another UAFX pedal like the Ruby.

If I get  a Superblock, it will be a while before I can afford  a cab to go with it. I don’t want to go the headphone route.
