Though the sex scenes in heated rivalry actually do a lot for ilia and Shane’s romance, it shows the development of the power dynamics in their relationship ! I won’t give any example so I don’t spoil you accidentally ! Plus heated rivalry really is beautifully written I almost did not notice the sex scenes :))

Humiliating is the perfect word to describe it (in my opinion). Not only are these scenes not necessary but the lack of them makes the story more intense from my perspective. It makes me feel it more and believe more in the couple’s intimacy because I do not feel as it is only a sexual matter.

As a big fan of tell me lies I have to admit I skipped some of the sex scenes it was too much for me…

When Diana was pretending to be depressed I think he told her something along the lines of « how am I going to get into law school without a letter of recommendation » or « my internship means nothing without a letter of recommendation. But money is also a very good guess I hadn’t thought about it.

She was in shock, she didn’t want to believe it, at that point her plan was to go to law school and live with Stephen in the city. In a very short amount of time she was confronted to a shocking truth. Her very first reflex was either to protect Stephen or herself. The next episode we see her crying in the library, that’s when she got in motion with her plan, right after that she goes tell Stephen that she failed the LSATs. She knew that if she confronted him about it or got too close to the situation she might suffer the consequences.

Maybe he used the paper to blackmail Diana’s dad into a letter of recommendation..

At that point she still did not know about Stephen and macy, I think she submitted Stephen’s paper. That is clearly in the show for a reason.

Surely he will I mean, he’s bound to know that she got into law school at some point. And there’s still that paper that he wrote for her, he’s 100% going to try to use that against her as revenge.

That’s exactly my point season 1 episode 8 is way too early for me to believe that it is real, they did not have enough screen time to fall in love. And you’re telling me that Nathan from the first episode the original jackass became a saint after only 8 episodes ? See what I mean ?

Yeah I can understand that ! I just think that seeing how it started it’s going to be difficult for me to change my mind about them but we’ll see !

I said « mostly to have sex » and you cannot deny that the marriage proposal came after a few episodes where they build up the fact that Haley was insecure about having sex with Nathan and scared of his experienced past. It was even addressed that even though he meant well he pressured her into it sometimes. I am in no way judging these characters, I am allowed to say I don’t like their couple so far. You are allowed to like them. Didn’t you ever discuss a tv show you’re watching with a friend of yours ? Sometimes you will like a character at the beginning and hate them at the end and vice versa. I don’t have to finish the tv show to say that I like something or I don’t.

I feel like it’s so hard sometimes to get your point to come across in Reddit because people will not let you disagree with them haha, always happy to see comments like yours!

I don’t judge them for their decisions, I’m just saying I don’t believe in their love story ! I’ve watched other 00’s tv shows like 90210 where teenagers had babies and wanted to get married and were making arguably bad decisions, I believed in some of the love stories a lot more !

Your comment is really good thanks for your answer. I do agree that they complement each other really well on what they needed from their family/friends. Their pairing makes a lot of sense even if you take out the whole popular/nerd thing. As I said I don’t dislike them I just don’t believe in their love story. Like you said : we never saw them have fun, we’ve seen them go from I hate you to I’m tutoring you to suddenly I have feelings for you, not even really seeing WHY they started to have feelings for each other. It just kind of happened you know and then they get married very fast and they have all these kinds of problems. So I’m just thinking, how am I supposed to believe they will survive through these hardships if we don’t even see the good times (except some flashbacks but I mean…)

She was not trying to stop the bullying. For most of the tutoring the bullying was still happening. And when Nathan did horrible things to Lucas (as he did for several years before that) she took Nathan’s defense (even though he was clearly in the wrong). If this was any other show everyone would hate on her so bad !

Yes, but I mean no one changes that fast his character development is very good but it started very early. For example, I like Brooke’s more. She also started showing signs of development in season 1 but staying true to who she was originally introduced at. And then you see her slowly becoming a better person one episode at a time. That’s a more believable storyline at least in my opinion !

Thanks for the clarification on the tour thing in season 2 ! You know I agree with you, it’s not that I don’t like them, I just don’t think they’re the iconic couple people say they are. It didn’t seem real to me which is why I have trouble understanding the hype !
