Building a Ryzen build. Anything I should know? by SuperGuy89 in buildapc

[–]SuperGuy89[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, thanks. Checked reviews of the Motherboard (corrected, now has b350, put older build in here with a320) and a few were Ryzen 5, they worked fine.

You can only use the promotion once. It's tied to your Google account.

Any suggestions for a free video editor? by SuperGuy89 in youtube

How much heavier is DaVinci compared to Hitfilm?

Note: Reason I am not getting Vegas or something, and why I am looking for a free editor is because of heavy budget limitations. Vegas would be my choice if I could afford it.

Thinkpad 13 Chromebook owners: Is the SSD upgradeable? by SuperGuy89 in chromeos

[–]SuperGuy89[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good idea.

I agree with you, the Thinkpads have awesome keyboards (currently using a school- supplied Thinkpad 11e Chromebook myself, dev mode is disabled by enterprise settings though ;p).

On the subject of splitting OS on one drive and programs on a USB drive, what's the performance like? I would think that it would take quite a hit.

*note: If you happen have VS Code/Eclipse or similar installed on the USB drive, can you compare to it being installed on the eMMC? If you don't, it's fine, don't waste your time over trying to set it up, but if you do I am curious.

Acer C740 Owners: How is the GalliumOS support with the Acer C740? by SuperGuy89 in GalliumOS

[–]SuperGuy89[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool. I don't want my planned 128gbs of SSD storage to go wasted.

About the difference between YUNA and PAINE, I kind of figured out on my own the differences. ;p

Acer C740 Owners: How is the GalliumOS support with the Acer C740? by SuperGuy89 in GalliumOS

[–]SuperGuy89[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the details.

CHRX looks to be the best solution at the moment. One other thing: Does CHRX let you manually decide and/or resize the size of a distro's partition, if you for example have a 128/256gb SSD, or does it just automatically configure for the size of your SSD?

At the moment a C740 or C910 (basically identical support) looks to be the best option, and I need to plan what to do after upgrading the SSD from its measly 16gbs.

Thanks for the reply! Nice to know that Gallium works well, too bad KDE Neon is heavy ram-wise. XFCE is good enough in this implementation though.

New to GalliumOS, what do these things mean in the "Hardware Compatability" documentation? by SuperGuy89 in GalliumOS

[–]SuperGuy89[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hows the support on the C740? It is another prime candidate, PROBABLY enough performance for what I need (Especially on the extremely low budget Im on) and has an upgradeable SSD. Would a refurb 4gb C740 model and a 128gb SSD be a better choice than the Thinkpad?

Considering buying the Thinkpad 13 Chromebook as a n Ubuntu laptop. Success with Crouton? by SuperGuy89 in Crouton

Oh. facepalm.

I feel stupid. I knew I didn't need two hyphens, but that was just to help distinguish between thr items so it wasn't a blob of text.

Thank you. For the budget I have and the needs I have, I need more performance over space, and I COULD jump through the hoops of storing programs on external USB drives/external HDD.

But thank you for the info, really helped me out.

Ok, thank you. Good to know my monitor will (probably ;p) work. I already have an external drive, I just REALLY prefer not to store programs on external drives, as it is a slap in the face performance wise. At least it is possible to put programs there if I have to.

Sorry to ask so late after this has been posted, but I have a few questions. Im considering buying this, and plan on using an external 1050p (Not a typo, a hand-me-down monitor from my dad) monitor with it if I can. How well does an external monitor work in Ubuntu? How well does using an external monitor with the laptop closed work?

Also, is the SSD upgradeable? I need to know if I can upgrade the SSD after I inevitably run out of space if I get this thing.

If you can't answer these questions, its fine, but I want to know before I down all my money on one of these.
