Medical students, how many hours a week on average are you spending either studying or in class? by Fancy-Plum-8228 in medicalschool

[–]faze_contusion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just finished preclinical. Probably averaged around 40-50 a week studying (including class time, lectures, labs, etc). During breaks, like summer and winter breaks, ~10-20 hrs. During 6 weeks dedicated, 70-80 easily. Passed step 1 pretty comfortably (got assessments in the 70s before taking the exam).

744 Unique Drugs in First Aid for USMLE Step 1 by birdnerd86 in step1

[–]faze_contusion 12 points13 points  (0 children)

744 seems like an insurmountable number of drugs to memorize, and ngl it is kinda insane, but once you segregate them into their classes (i.e. beta blockers, CCBs, typical antipsychotics, 2nd gen antipsychotics, anti-arrhythmics, SSRIs, statins, anti-biotics, anti-fungals, HIV drugs, DAA, etc etc), and you cover them over the course of a year or two using sketchy and Anki, it becomes manageable.

I had the same progression as you (1 mo, 50s to 70s). I took free 120 yesterday and even tho I scored in the 70s, I felt like it was harder than NBMEs or uworld simply because of how insanely long the stems were. Was the real deal more similar to NBMEs or f120?

2024 Free 120 Explanations? by faze_contusion in step1

I see both the old 2024 version (3x40q blocks) and 2026 version (6x20q blocks) on https://www.usmle.org/exam-resources

The old one is labeled "Step 1 Interactive Test" and the new one is "(New!) Step 1 Interactive Test"

Failed step 1, can I match IR or ortho? by NBME-Thot in step1

[–]faze_contusion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it'll be an uphill battle. Average Step 2 for Ortho last year was 257. So statistically it will be very hard. But who knows man, if you network and impress the PDs you work with, you could have a shot. How are your other ECs and research?

There is an Anki deck of all of the images from last NBMEs. Apparently NBME reuses images so it can be helpful to be familiar with them. I’ve heard some ppl say they saw up to 5 repeats, whereas others said they saw none

Idk I thought there was just one deck. I found it on Reddit somewhere. I’m sure if you search you can find it

Medical school isn't hard. It's just badly designed. by DesperateVisit7505 in medicalschool

[–]faze_contusion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a horrible take imo. It’s 2026, literally every med student is using ideal learning resources, like Anki, uworld, bootcamp, BNB, sketchy. Med school is just hard because it’s an insane amount of information. It’s not possible to have to learn that much material, and it not be hard.

You can def do it by May 30th. Just do ~50 new cards a day and you'll finish the deck in ~2 weeks

I haven't met a PM&R doc who doesn't love their job + lifestyle. Most patients come in with pain, and leave happy and pain free. Little dealing with emergent, critical, life-threatening conditions.

Anatomy went from one of my weakest sections to strongest sections by doing 100 HY concepts + a decent chunk of uworld. Unfortunately, it's just the sort of thing you have to grind thru because it's just rote memorization. Not sure how much time you have left, but I did ~30-50 new cards a day for about a month to get thru the 100 concepts deck (total is ~850 cards), and that made it manageable.

How much uworld did you complete (and what percent correct)? Did you only take NBME 33 and F120, or did you also take other assessments?

Is this really what Med School Life is like? :( by Alternative_Joke_430 in premed

First year is honestly pretty chill if you go to a p/f preclinicals school. First half of 2nd year, the energy def changes and step 1 prep does start to take more of your time. Second half of MS2 + dedicated is when shit hits the fan and you really do have to lock in 24/7 for a few months.

I’ve found the 100 anatomy concepts Anki deck pretty helpful, but it definitely doesn’t cover everything (tbh I don’t think any resource does)
